20. Facing Fears

Somehow I make it through the night but it's not without waking up four times. Finally, I had given up and just stayed up, opting to head into the office early. It's just past five in the morning when the main office door opens and I look up from the email I was drafting to send to the hospitals sponsoring this year's ball. Today was the final walk-through before the big day where investors could potentially pull out if they didn't think the event could turn a profit.

I had kept my door open so I could see out into the office since we weren't technically in operating hours so when a flash of blonde hair is flipped over the woman's shoulder as she re-locks the door my heart skips a beat. She turns around and her blue eyes go wide as they land on mine. "Oh. Good morning" she says awkwardly, standing against the large, oak door.

"Morning" I reply, leaning back in my chair. "What brings you in so early?" I ask. She walks into my office and moves towards my desk, taking a seat atop a stack of paperwork.

"I couldn't sleep" she admits and I smirk. I knew she wouldn't be able to last a night without me just as I couldn't last one without her. "So, I decided to come in early and get some paperwork done and out of the way since we do have the meeting with the investors today" she adds and I nod thoughtfully.

"Sounds like you have a plan" I smirk, placing my hand on her knee. "It would be a shame if it were derailed somehow." She quirks and eyebrow at me, uncrossing her legs and leaning into my touch.

"I suppose but then again, I think my boss kinda has a crush on me so I think I'd be okay" she adds smartly and I laugh. Crush was the understatement of the century.

"I think he'd let it slide" I agree as I tug on her hand and yank her towards me until she's straddling my lap on my chair. "I missed you last night" I murmur as I wrap my arms around her back, slipping one underneath her white blouse that she had clearly pressed the night before; it was a shame it was about to end up wrinkled on my floor.

"Is that why you're here so early?" she asks, placing her hands against my chest.

"My, why else would I possibly be up so early?" I ask and she smirks, reaching her hand between us and pressing it against the obvious bulge in my pants.

"You tell me" she breathes out and my heart starts pounding in my chest as I crash my lips onto hers, deepening the kiss immediately while I reach between us and hike up her skirt while her hands fumble with the fastenings on my pants. Her lips leave mine but her face hovers in front of mine, her forehead pressed against mine as she finally tugs my pants and boxers down enough to expose me to her. Her eyes flicker up to meet mine and the usual soft blue color has vanished and been replaced by her black pupils being blown wide. "Does anyone else have a key to the door?" she asks breathlessly, hovering her hips above mine high enough to keep me from lifting my hips to fill her.

"Just Penny but she won't be here for another hour" I reply breathlessly.

"Good" she breathes out, crashing her lips back onto mine as I push her panties to the side and allow her to sink onto me. She whimpers on top of me, clutching at the hair at the nape of the neck while my chair squeaks underneath us. I pull her closer, needing to feel the warmth of her body against mine after missing her last night.

After our first night together sex wasn't just something I enjoyed doing for fun anymore, instead it had become an emotional tether to the woman on top of me. After my excruciating heartbreak I never thought I could feel this way again but then I met Maya. The realization of just how much I care about her hits me like a freight train and I'm suddenly needing space because if I don't get it I may say something that I know she's not ready to hear. "Maya" I groan, pushing her away.
