When Minji blearily opened her eyes, the sun was shining straight into her corneas through the transparent window pane. Rubbing her eyelids with the back of her hand, she muttered a profanity because of the sting in her eyes before staggering to her feet with much difficulty.

She had to muster up all of her remaining strength to be able to stand but after that "nap", she was slightly more energized again.

Once she was on her two feet again, she tried to regain her bearings by surveying her surroundings after being disoriented. When she recalled the events that had occurred just a few hours ago, she blinked back tears.

Why didn't her friends search for her?

Maybe she was just being emotional and dramatic because of her approaching time of the month but God, it still hurt.

She pocketed her cracked phone and burst out of the room, her eyes filling with tears of hurt as she ran to god-knows-where. Her feet took her up several floors to the highest level - the rooftop of the school.

When she threw the door open, a chilly gust of wind numbed her face as she stepped outside. She let the wind freeze her tears as she took in the picturesque view of the sunset.

The sun had changed to hues of orange, and then almost tangerine. It merged with the sky, like juice-mix dissolving in a glass of water. The clouds were cotton-candy, as though they blushed at the warm touch of the sun. Silhouettes of birds flying home drifted across a sky that was now magenta. It was beautiful. She would surely miss this sight once she was gone. But it was not enough to deter her.

She was five stories up and her fate depended on the concrete beneath her if she jumps.

All she had to do was let herself fall, and she would be free.

She would be free of the suffering, the pain, the anxiety, and the constant burden weighing down on her.

And all it was going to take was a leap.

If she could be reborn again, perhaps she would love herself in a different body.

A soft "ping!" of her phone lighting up with a notification distracted her from her suicidal thoughts for a moment.

A spark of hope lit up in her.

Was it from her friends who were asking where she was?

Alas, when she switched on her phone and checked out the notification, it was simply an article from an online newspaper she had subscribed to.
