All this time, the saint was a sinner

The jokes on me, a stone cold killer

Demons in my head

- Demons; The Wanted

Chapter One:

I was once again in the dark room. The walls, ceiling, floor was black - it reminded me of a very dark cavern. I looked around and noticed that I was alone... for now. It was a few moments later when I heard it: the distinctive demonic laugh ran through me, sending shivers down my spine - he was here.

"Hello young one." I could feel his breath on the back on my neck, I was frozen on the spot, too afraid to turn around. "Back for some more riddles I see?"

It was the same thing every night when I fell asleep: I would be in this dark room that I had no clue where it ended or even began, then I would be joined by him whom speaks to me in riddles where I have to guess what they mean. Luckily for me, I've gotten them most right. Hopefully tonight I don't slip up.

"You answer me, although I never ask you questions. What am I?" The demon had started to walk around me, his footsteps echoing throughout the cold and dark room. I didn't look at him straight in the eye, looking straight forward trying to keep breathing regularly I answered him.

"A telephone."

"You can't keep this until you have given it."

I knew this one, he had asked me this before so I didn't even hesitate. "A promise."

"Last one now, I'll be sure to make this as hard as I can." He chuckled seeing my worried expression. " I'm the part of the bird that's not in the sky. I can swim in the ocean and yet remain dry. What am I?"

"I don't know." I spoke quietly, too afraid to speak any louder. This was the first time that I didn't know an answer to one of his riddles.

He repeated the riddle over and over again, each time getting more louder and aggressive as he spoke the words.

"I'M PART OF THE BIRD THAT'S NOT IN THE SKY. I CAN SWIM IN THE OCEAN AND YET REMAIN DRY. WHAT AM I?"

I could feel tears streaming down my face, I wanted to wake up right now. I don't know how much more I could take of this. "I don't know." I whimpered as he glared right at me, his face inches from my own. I felt him push me backwards, I screamed as I felt excruciating pain in my right hand, I looked to my right and noticed that my hand had gotten caught in some type of a bear trap. I nearly passed out from the sight of all the blood, I felt sick.

Thankfully that's were the dream ended for me. It was the same every night for me. I was afraid to fall asleep as I would always end up back there, where the lines between reality and fantasy would merge together and I wouldn't know if I was dreaming or it actually happened. Of course it all felt real but was that just my imagination or did it really happen?

That's the question that always haunted me.

"It's okay Nathan, don't worry now. It's all over." Jay whispered softly into my arm as he wrapped his arms around me, pulling me closer to his body as he gently rocked me backwards ad forwards. He continued doing that; whispering cute things into my ear to try and calm me down as well as rocking me back and forth - after a while I ended up falling back to sleep, much to my dismay.

Jay's POV:

I looked down at Nathan's sleeping figure, he looked more peaceful now. I could only hope that he didn't have any more nightmares tonight, to guarantee that I decided to stay awake for the rest of the night so I was able to make sure that he was okay. I was the only one that knew how to calm him down after his dreams, Siva, Max and Tom have all tried but I have been the only succeeder.I just wished I could take away his nightmares, I was worried that one day he was going to give himself a hernia from screaming every single night - And I didn't want that, God no; not only would our best singer from the wanted would be unable to sing for us, it would kill me to see him in so much pain. I knew how much he loved singing and him possibly not singing again would devastate him.

All night I cradled Nathan like a baby, not letting him go as if holding him in my arms was the only way of keeping his nightmares at bay. I had no idea if my theory worked but when I woke this morning - after accidentally falling back to sleep - he was still asleep and looked as peaceful as ever. Slowly climbing out of the bed, trying my best not to disturb him I got up and walked downstairs where the other lads were.

I could only hope that he would be fine whilst I was gone and thankfully, I was right.

Hey everyone, so this is my new book!! :) It's going to be much darker and more angsty than my other stories, if you can't tell already :P This was sort-of inspired by  an episode of supernatural. and the riddles part was inspired by another fanfiction that I have read. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy it and I'll try to make the chapters as long as I can for you all :) - Talia x
