Ski’s Pov – Day of Grandma’s death.

My name is Ski, It’s pronounced like Sky, people get it wrong all the time. And it’s annoying. Anyways, I’m Ski, I was born an orphan twelve years ago to Tatsuki and Rida. (Tatsuki is my Dad, Rida is my Mom, don’t ask.) A few days after my Mom get pregnant my Dad got into a horrible accident and didn’t make it. My Mom was in hysterics; she was so sad but knew she had to give birth to me. She was too weak to give birth though, and died in labor. My survival was a miracle, such a miracle my middle name is Kiseki. Ski Kiseki, that’s it. I have no last name worth to mention, so I won’t.

“That’ll be forty dollars and fifty two cents.” The cashier reached out expectantly. Her fake nails glistened at the tips of her extended fingers, her hair was bleached and she had cheap lipstick and perfume on. I took out the money and handed it to her. She counted it all up then put it in the cash register. I picked up all my bags as I heard her go ‘hem-hem’ and glance expectantly at the tip box. I reached into my pocket and left a dollar as she smiled her fake sick smile, “Thank you for your partnership.” I nodded and stepped outside the automatic doors. This isn’t the richest part of town. My Grandma lives not too far from here, but we don’t live in too much poverty and there aren’t any debts or regrets she has.

I glanced down at a puddle left from the recent storm and my green eyes stared back at me. I’m definitely not somebody all the girls would go out with at school; my green eyes were apparently an odd bright shade and my hair looked incredibly messy. But it wasn’t messy, that was just the natural look. It looked as if somebody had stuck their hand in my brown hair and just ruffled it up. Well, actually, perhaps it is messy. I pushed back my glasses so I could fully see. The reflection in the puddle stirred as a cold wind blew through. I looked up at the sky that was slowly darkening with clouds. I zipped up my jacket, gathered the shopping bags, and took off towards my Grandma’s house. I jumped over a few puddles, my gaze lingering on the ground so I wouldn’t trip. That’s why I shouldn’t have done that, I crashed right into a girl.

“O-oh uh I’m sorry!” I tried reaching for her messenger bag that she had dropped but before I could pick it up and hand it to her our fingers brushed. We looked up at the same time into each other’s eyes and she blushed, “I’m sorry, I was dozing off at how beautiful everything looks after the rain. It’s sort of… healthy, you know?” I pulled her up off the ground, she almost fell into a puddle, and thank god she didn’t. I looked around and my gaze fell on a tree not too far away.

“W-well you’re right; they do have sort of a healthy aura.” Her eyes practically sparkled as she grabbed my hands smiling. “Yeah, right?! They are really beautiful right? I feel bad for the animals when it gets really cold though, by the way, I’m Mei, hi!” I nodded.

“Y-yeah hi I’m Ski.” Mei noticed she was grabbing my hands and let go, then grabbed one of my bags before I could stop her. She smiled, “I’m going to help you if you like it or not.”

“W-wait don’t do that!” she gave me a look and then I sighed and lead the way back. We walked as she kept talking about quite random subjects, most to do about auras. Right, I forgot to describe her. I stole a glance at her as she stared straight ahead talking something about plants while smiling. She had a cute smile and dirty blond hair which she seemed to have a habit of tucking it behind her ear. Yeah she also acted like sort of an air head, but it was… honestly kind of cute. I shook my head and looked up to see I had stopped in front of my Grammy’s house. I slipped my hand into various pockets until finally getting my keys. I shifted all the bags onto my left arm and jangled the key into the keyhole and turned. The door swung open slamming against the door stopper. The house didn’t seem to have its usual cheerfulness. I was scared in an odd way, but as I passed the temperature control I turned on the heater. After Mei and I put all the groceries away I started to head upstairs, not knowing Mei was behind me until I was outside my Grandma’s room. She pleaded to come with me and I finally gave in, I knocked lightly on her door. Either she was in the bathroom, taking a nap, or asleep because she didn’t respond. Opening the door a little, I saw her lying on her bed. Was she taking a nap? Mei gripped my arm as I turned to her, “What is it?” she lowered her eye’s and passed me, walking right up to my Grandma and placing two finger’s on her wrist. Mei shut her eyes for a few seconds then opened them, flipping open her cell phone and dialing a number.
