Chapter 11

The sound of beeping filled my ears when I woke up. I looked around the room and could see that I was hooked up to a monitor and could hear it beeping as it kept a check on my heart rate. As I tried to move my right leg I could feel something heavy that was laying against it. Looking down I could see that it was Hailey, who was fast asleep. And I couldn't help the smile that was starting to form on my face.

As I laid there for a few more minutes I tried to remember what had happened. But, the only thing that I could remember was hearing several gunshots and being worried about Hailey's safety and then blacking out as I covered her with my body. While I laid there thinking back I saw the on-call doctor that worked for us come in and looked at me.

He continued to stare for a few minutes and then I heard him talk. "You gave everyone quite a scare today."

I shook my head slightly before I said. "Eh. I'm fine. Just a few gunshot wounds. I mean it's not like I've never been shot before."

He chuckled a bit at that and then walked over to me and took me off the heart monitor and then moved it to the other side of the bed. Feeling a cramp in my right leg, I moved it slightly. However, as soon as I moved it I could see Hailey waking up. I cringed when she sat up. I didn't want to wake her but, unfortunately, I did.

As soon as she sat up in her chair I watched as she rubbed her eyes and yawned a bit and then turned and looked at me and said. "Oh, thank god. Draco, I thought that I had lost you. You really scared me when you passed out."

"I'm sorry about that, sweetheart. I didn't mean to scare you like that. You didn't get hit when the shooting happened did you?" I asked her.

"No. I'm alright. I just have a slight headache from where I tapped my head on the flooring on the boat when you protected me from being shot. Thank you, Draco. For protecting me." She said with a smile.

As soon as she said that I breathed a sigh of relief and then said to Hailey. "It was no problem, sweetheart. I would do anything for you."

She grinned at that and then I watched her stand from where she was sitting and walked over to the nearby counter and poured a cup of ice water for herself and took a sip. However, as soon as she stood up, I watched as the door to my room opened and watched as Aleksei came in with a worried look on his face.

"What's wrong with you?" I asked sarcastically.

I watched as he literally wiped the sweat from his face before he spoke. "I found out some news for you that you might find interesting."

"Oh. And what's it about?" I asked.

I watched as Aleksei looked at Hailey and then said. "I rather tell you this in private."

Shaking my head at him I said. "Anything that you can tell me, then you can tell her." I said, and Hailey moved her cold cup of water from her lips and looked at Aleksei for a second and then walked back to where she was originally sitting at and sat down with her water.

Once Hailey had sat down I turned my attention from her and looked at Aleksei and said, "Go on. Tell me what you had to tell me."

I watched as Aleksei took a deep breath and then said. "According to the research that I did today, there has been a hit put out on your head for two million dollars."

I shook my head as I was kind of confused as to what the hell Aleksei was talking about and then asked. "Who the hell put a hit out on me. Wait a minute, this doesn't have to do with the whole Jimmy issue. Now does it?"

I watched as Aleksei gave an annoyed sigh and then sat down in a chair that was against the wall, across from my bed and said. "Bingo. And it's your favorite person who took the hit out on you and we both know who that bastard is."

"Fuck!" I said as I rubbed my hands down my face. "Vincenzo."

"Who's that?" Hailey asked, worried.

I breathed a deep sigh and then answered. "Vincenzo Marino is the rival boss of the Marino crime family. His group is one of the most annoying Italian mafia groups that I have ever seen in my entire life. He is a tight ass and loves to try to find out information about my group every single chance that he gets. He is also the same man who killed my worthless father."

I watched as Hailey rubbed her arm and then said. "I'm sorry to hear that about your father."

"Don't be. He was a worthless man who loved to both physically abuse and mentally abuse me every chance that he got when I was a child. In fact, when Vincenzo killed the old man I was so happy that I could have done cartwheels in the street." I replied.

Upon hearing this, I watched as Hailey covered her mouth with her hands and snickered a bit to herself and then said. "That's so mean, Draco. But, it's also funny as hell at the same time."

I shrugged my shoulders in sort of a joking manner and then said. "Well, what more can I say the man deserved it more than anyone."

"That is true." She replied.

As soon as Hailey had said that I heard the sound of Aleksei clear his throat which caused me to turn my attention away from Hailey and onto him.

"What?" I asked him.

If you two are finished. I think its about that time that we got back to the matter at hand." Aleksei said sternly.

I waved my hands towards him in order to calm him down a bit and then said. "Alright. What else is there to tell?"

Aleksei cleared his throat and said. "Well, from what I learned a while ago, is that Vincenzo apparently has the captain of the Miami police department in his back pocket. And to get rid of anyone that you care about."

As soon as Hailey heard this I watched her abruptly stand from her chair and covered her mouth with her hands and just stared absently for several minutes and then said. "So, let me get this straight. Not only does this Vincenzo guy have a hit out on Draco. But, he also apparently has a hit placed on anyone that Draco cares about, he also has close ties to my boss?!"

"Yep. Your right on the money there dear." Aleksei replied.

As soon as those words left Aleksei's lips I then watched as Hailey dropped to her knees on the cold hardwood floor and then just passed out. Just as soon as she dropped I yelled at Aleksei to go get the doctor who had just left my room only a mere three minutes ago. And it was then that I felt my world spin.
