Chapter 16

Once we arrived at the compound, I parked my car and then got out and went around to Hailey's side of the car and helped her out. I was mentally dreading bringing her here. But, I knew that I didn't have a choice in the matter at hand. Taking hold of her hand, I walked her over to the front door and held it open for her as she walked inside. As the door closed behind me, I watched as she looked around the main entryway with a look of shock and awe on her face.

I walked over to where she was looking around the room, staring at the custom paintings that lined the beige colored walls. I nudged her arm and asked. "Like what you see?"

She turned her head and looked to me and replied. "I've never seen painting this good before. Who painted these?" She asked as she pointed to the abstract paintings.

I looked at them and then replied. "Those paintings that my mother created before she died. They were giving to me in a box on the day of my father's funeral. From what I was told, the day after my mother was killed in that fire that scared me as an infant. My father discovered these untouched by the fire and put them into a box and then threw them into a storage unit and never touched them again."

"That's sad, Draco. I'm sorry to hear that. But, though at least you were able to have something that once belonged to your mother." She replied, and wrapped her arms around me, gave me a tight squeeze.

I hugged her back and then kissed her on top of the head, she let go of me and I took her by the hand and she looked up at me. And we then walked to where the meeting with my underlings was to be held. Once in the crowded room, I watched as they guys walked around chatting to one another.

Not in the mood to be bothered, I spotted Boris sitting on one of the chairs on one side of the room drinking away at a steaming to-go container of sugared coffee. Pulling Hailey along with me, I walked to where he was sitting at and sat down beside him. As soon as he saw me he stopped drinking and placed the cup down on a table beside him.

I looked at him and said. "You look like shit. Did you even go to bed last night?"

He reached into his suit pocket and pulled out a lighter and a cigarette and then shook his head at me and then replied. "No. I stayed up all night last night, building that bomb for Vincenzo's surprise party."

"Well, I'm sure that he's going to appreciate all the time that you put into his gift. But, still you should have at least taken some kind of a nap." I said, and Hailey let go of my hand a started scratching her ear.

"Oh, I know he will love my present it will definitely be the star of the show. Hey, considering that I already know what this whole damn meeting is about, do you mind if I finish off my coffee and smoke this cig and then go crash for a while?" He asked.

"Sure, go ahead. Take the back office there is a bed in there. I'm going to go ahead and this meeting underway. I have some stuff at the office that I need to do. Once that is done I will wake you up so that you can take Hailey to the police department. She said last night that she wanted to quit." I replied.

As soon as those words left my lips, I saw Boris give me a strange look and then asked. "Why is she quitting? I thought she loved her job."

"She does. But, we discussed it last night and she decided that it would be for the best that she quit. She said she wanted to be a stay at home mother." I answered.

He nodded his head and then downed his coffee and put his cigarette and then stood up and walked off towards the back office. Once he was gone I clapped my hands and yelled out to the crowd of men who were still busy talking amongst one another and said. "ALRIGHT, I NEED EVERYONE TO SHUT THE FUCK UP AND SIT DOWN!"

Upon hearing me yell that everyone quickly shut up and sat down in the available chairs, and I sat back down beside Hailey. Once everyone had finally settled down I raised my hand towards them and said. "Alright, guys. Let's get this meeting underway shall we. Now as you all know we are under attack by the Marino gang and because of Jimmy's death. However, how I plan of dealing his gang is, I want you guy to do is kill every Marino member that comes within your sight. Boris, Aleksei and I will deal with the Vincenzo issue."

I watched as everyone shook their heads towards me in understanding what I had just said. And once that part of the meeting was out of the way, we discussed several other problems that were currently going on within the group. With the meeting finished and everyone started walking off. I took Hailey by the hand and walked over to where Aleksei was drinking a cup of coffee at.

As soon as Aleksei saw us, he stopped drinking his coffee and walked over to us, meeting us halfway and then wrapped his arm around my shoulder and then said. "This is a good idea, boss. I like the way you think."

I nodded my head at him appreciative of his approval. And then said. "Come with me. There is something else about this ordeal that I need to inform you about." I said, and he started following Hailey and I as we started walking off from him.

As we walked down the hallway, I could hear the sound of Aleksei's heavy footsteps as he followed closely behind us. To be honest, Aleksei was following too close to us in fact, because when I made a sudden stop in front of the office door where Boris was asleep at. I felt as Aleksei walked straight into me and ramming his nose into my back rather hard.

I let go of Hailey's hand and turned around to look at him holding his hand against his nose, with a look of pain of his face and then heard him say out loud. "Fuck that hurt!" He exclaimed, and then rubbed his hand against the bridge of his nose and then looked up at me and mumbled out an apology. "Sorry, Pakhan."

"Don't worry about it. Just next damn time watch where you are going. Now, come on and follow me." I said as I opened the office door and went inside with Hailey and Aleksei in tow.

Once inside the room, we could all hear the sound of Boris snoring loudly from where he was sleeping on the office couch. His legs hanging halfway off the end of the couch. I shook my head at the sight and motioned for Aleksei to flip on the lights, which he did. And I then walked over to the couch that Boris was sleeping on and gave a hard kick to the side of the couch, causing Boris to roll off and hit the floor.

As soon as he hit the floor, he sat straight up, holding his hand against his head and yelled out. "WHAT THE FUCK!!!"

I bent down and looked at him and gave him a cold glare and then said. "It's time to get up. You've napped for long enough."

Boris rolled his eyes at me and then lifted himself off the floor and then sat down on the couch and pulled a cigarette from his pocket and lit it and then asked. "So, what is it Pakhan?"

I sat down in a chair across from him and pulled Hailey into my lap and then pointed to the chair across from me and ushered for Aleksei to sit down which he did. Once all our plans for Vincenzo were in order, I left and took Hailey back home with me so that she could relax.
