" people go but how they left always stays."
- r. kaur, milk and honey
it was 5 months later that everything finally dawned on them. 5 months of getting used to the strange emptiness and hollowness they felt within them, now not hwayoung was gone.
it felt like a big stage play. seemingly scripted, as if they were waiting for the story to unfold and a miracle would happen and suddenly she would come back. they were waiting for the grand finale, where the girl returns and they all live happily after ever.
but this was reality. it wasn't some fairytale, and those happy endings don't usually happen in real life. and the slow, settling drag of realization had to hit them at the worst time.
people only begin to realize once everything has come to an end.
daniel looked at his self through the mirror. hair disheveled, eyes swollen and his sad, almost gloomy expression peeked through the suds of his toothpaste.
it was yet another day of work. another day to put up his big impenetrable facade. he really thought he could last his days without remembering her but to put it simply, he remembered her all the time.
he tried to smile for once, forcefully pushing the sides of his mouth upwards. he thought that he needed to let it sink in sooner or later. it wouldn't be long until the truth slaps him in the face like a cold splash of iced water.
she's gone, and you have to move on, daniel.
he strolled down the plight of stairs, fully dressed and ready to go into the van where the others where already at. he felt through his pocket, searching for a particular item he would bring anywhere he'd go.
" hey guys, have you seen the cassette tape?" daniel frantically asked. " it's in your other pocket, hyung." jinyoung reminded, and daniel let out a sigh of relief.
they were heading to another filming schedule for a cf they had. their entire styling team was busy setting up at the venue, and they had to look their very best because it was for a major brand.
they hopped off the van and quickly became busy with the fast- paced shift of events. it was tiring, and stressful for the boys considering their schedules would pile on top each other. coming back to their dorms at about 2 am and having to leave when the clock strikes at 6.
jihoon was getting his makeup touched up. woojin approached him, doing their signature 'pink sausages' movement along with a few hand tickles. on the bright side, some of the members managed to return to their cheerful state. 5 months was quite a long time, but still they weren't all back to the way they were before.
in the middle of shooting his individual cut, seongwoo heard a familiar voice play through the speakers. he smirked, knowing who was playing it.
" doesn't he ever get tired of hearing it?" minhyun asked involuntarily, all of them looking at the person standing by the stereo system.
" i don't." daniel muttered, his back facing them.
. . .
after their shoot, they had to go back to their company's building to rehearse a few songs for their next comeback. they had approximately about a month to prepare and practice for it, and they had to focus while they could.
the members practiced until dawn, taking seldom breaks for their rest.
daniel and seongwoo were at the rooftop, their usual hideout whenever it was late and they needed some air.
he lit a cigarette on his mouth and puffed out a heap of smoke. seongwoo fanned the smoke frantically away from him. " goddamn, when did you even start smoking, niel?" seongwoo asked as he was coughing hardly.
a couple of months after she left, he started to adapt a vice of smoking. it was the only way to distract him from the outcry in his chest so he chose to do it for the sole reason that he thought of it as a way to maybe forget her.
he knew that would be impossible, though. for forgetting her wasn't just a mere task to do,he knew it would take all of his efforts just to fill in the empty space in his heart.
" promotions are starting soon." seongwoo mentioned, looking at daniel who just continued to smoke his cigarette while looking below. it was almost only yesterday when they had the same conversation. but of course, a lot has past since then.
daniel just merely nodded, clearly pre- occupied about something. " kang daniel." seongwoo tried to nudge theboy beside him.
daniel snapped out of it, looking at seongwoo whilst puffing out some smoke. " yes?"
" you know what that means, right?" seongwoo raised both of his brows in anticipation. daniel thought for awhile, " what... does that mean?" he asked cluelessly.
" fansign week. that's what it means." seongwoo answered, saying it like it was a burden to even utter. daniel's eyes saddened, feeling the tug in his heart that never really left.
" i think you're going to have to accept the fact that she won't be in one of those anymore."
