Jungkook woke up feeling different that day. His heart was lighter, and his chest less congested.
He woke up feeling less like he was being held captive and more like he was held against someone's chest.
Maybe that's because he was.
Jungkook felt two strong arms around his waist, a soft head of hair resting in between his neck and shoulders and steady breaths warming his collarbones. He could hear soft groans from below him, and he smiled softly when the figure pulled him closer, kissing his neck softly.
In this exact moment, Jungkook felt like the most precious thing in the world.
He looked down, his eyes gazing at the face that was once buried in his neck. V's eyes were closed, and his soft face shined in the small amount of sunlight that poured through the window. His bright pink lips were parted slightly, revealing the pearly teeth inside his mouth.
Jungkook raised his hand slowly, grazing the boy's features gently before running his hand through his soft brown hair. His heartbeat raised from just looking at him like this, and there was a part of him that wanted to stay like this forever, V's arms tightly around him.
Since when did he feel like this? For V? For anyone at all?
This was all so new to him, but if this is what Jungkook thought it was then he wouldn't want to feel anyway else.
"Why are you so familiar to me?" Jungkook cupped his face in his hand, running his thumb across his cheek slowly. "Why do I feel so safe with you? Even after what you've done?"
Jungkook's mind wandered back to almost a week ago when he and his friends wandered into the cabin with fresh faces and slightly forced grins.
The dream he had that night was almost like a flashback, when Jin first introduced the idea to all of them.
"Yaaaaaaaahhh!" Jin shouted, ringing a bell that rang throughout the dorm. They had lived together for about 2 years before they started college, and so far everything had been going well.
There were a few fights and disagreements (especially between the couples in the dorm) but otherwise, it was quite peaceful, despite their playful banter.
"All fucktards please report to the dinner table, I repeat, all fucktards please report to the dinner table," Jin said, setting down his bell and sitting in his spot at the head of the table.
The boys groaned, all of them having already gotten comfortable on the couch, about to start their video games.
Namjoon got up immediately, sitting at his own spot on the opposite side from Jin. "Come on guys, we can play later. Let's just get this over with."
Namjoon had already known about this little trip long before this "family meeting". Needless to say, he was less than excited.
Namjoon was the type to focus on school work rather than a vacation, so the thought of taking a break for a whole 2 weeks was quite unsettling for him.
Jimin sat beside Yoongi at the table, followed by Jungkook and Hoseok, all of them sinking in their seats like children about to be punished.
Jungkook looked around, this is how it's always been for them. Although he was quite reserved from his group of friends, they were really all he had. He appreciated their presence at times where he didn't want to be alone.
Jungkook's family abandoned him long ago, leaving him on the swing of a park near the woods. They disappeared after disposing of him like trash, and Jungkook never saw or heard from them again.
Not that he would ever want to. What kind of family leaves their 5-year-old son by themselves, near the woods when the sun was just about to set?
After he walked the streets for hours, a neighbour had found him at a convenience store. They took him in, giving him food, water and shelter.
Though he had never spoken a word to them.
He had never spoken a word to anyone until Jimin had approached him in 5th grade, though he had always remembered someone else being there as well.
Jimin had brought him out of his shell, helping him adjust to being a functional human being. Soon enough he was accepted into Jimin's friend group and they all spent almost every waking moment together.
Yet no matter how hard he tired, Jungkook could never understand human emotions as well as everyone else. Although he had been conditioned (by Jimin and a couple years in therapy) to respond in certain situations, he never understood the importance of caring for someone other than himself.
"Jungkook, if you see a friend or a family member crying, what do you do?" His therapist would ask him questions like these quite often, to which Jungkook would reply with a shrug and a small "I don't know, I wouldn't really care."
Sometimes, when Jungkook would lay on his bedroom floor and stare at the moon from his slanted window, his mind would wander to when he was 5 years old.
If that hadn't had happened, if he wasn't thrown away like garbage, would he be a different person now? Would he be in a different house, with different friends, and a different mindset?
Would he still think of people as less than he was? Would he care about others like a "normal" person would?
These questions plagued his mind quite often, leaving him in his own world completely and completely unknowing to the people around him-
"Jungkook, do you mind getting out of your head for a second?" Jimin said, a worried look plastered on his face.
Jungkook had to learn what different expressions meant too, he had gotten pretty good at it.
He nodded, muttering a "Sorry." before looking back at Jin who sighed before starting over.
"We're going on a trip, its a cabin and it'll be fun for all of us. We all deserve a break, we've been working way too hard this past month and now that we're on vacation anyways we can all finally relax. You know, get out of our heads a bit." The way Jin had emphasized the last sentence made it clear that the message was specifically for Jungkook.
Jungkook didn't mind having a vacation, he felt like he had deserved it from not acting like an asshole to anyone for a whole straight month. That was a record for him.
"And Jungkook?" Namjoon started, he looked over. Jungkook noticed there was a different look in his eye, almost as if it could see things he couldn't.
Once Namjoon knew he had Jungkook's attention, he continued. "Go back to him. We've forgiven you."
Jungkook had felt himself slowly moving away from it all, the picture in his mind losing colour.
Jimin smiled slightly, "It was my doing. Just go back to him. Keep living."
Jin stood, and Jungkook stared at the figures around him.
Jin held his shoulders tightly, a soft and forgiving smile spread across his face. "It's okay, we're okay. We're free now."
Jin's hand slowly moved over Jungkook's eyes, blocking his vision. "The day when we all meet again will come."
And before Jungkook had opened his eyes that morning, a lingering voice in his mind spoke.
"Let him love you."
