As Lena is talking with Edward about random things, Wyatt heads back to the table. His eyes are red from holding back waves of tears, never letting go. He is heartbroken, realizing Tony doesn't belong to him no more.
"Wyatt?" Mia notices him first, her eyes opening wide. "Is everything alright?"
Wyatt stares at her, taking a deep, shaky breath before crying all over again. "No," he whispers.
She covers her mouth, feeling useless. "Come and sit. Let's talk."
Wyatt wipes his tears with his sleeves, trying to control himself. "Actually, I want to be alone."
A bullet hits Mia's heart hard, but she understands him, simply nodding.
Lena taps Mia's shoulder as Wyatt walks away, wanting to know why he's crying. Instead of answering, Mia shrugs.
"Weird," Michelle whispers to Joseph as the two see what's happening on front of them. He nods, agreeing with her.
"Where's Tony, anyways?" he asks, looking around.
Michelle's stomach suddenly drops. XOXO? Did she take Tony? In a second, she's grabbing Lena by the arm and pulling her outside, away from the loud music.
"Hey! What is it?" Lena says, letting go off Michelle.
"We were supposed to be together!" Michelle yells, skimming through the tall vehicles in the deadly night.
Lena gets what she's trying to say. Tony is gone, so she begins to check the east side of parking lot, opposite from Michelle, for any signs of him. She knows he could've left after the whole Wyatt dilemma he must've been involved in, but did he?
The moon crescent isn't lighting the parking lot enough to make sure no one is nearby. The flickering lamps barely sharing light. Also, the only sound is coming from her boots hitting the dark gravel as she walks by every car and chirping crickets.
Tshh!
Out of nowhere, she hears a light step two trucks away.
"Michelle? Tony?" she calls out, standing straight, shivers running down her spine. "Is that you?"
Silence.
Maybe it is her mind playing tricks again. Damn Rowan for the hit she took! Can it be him staring at her right now? XOXO?
The lightbulb on front of her shatters into tiny pieces. Releasing a loud, cracking noise as it gives its final glint of light. She screams in fear as the pieces of glass hit the ground near her, terrified.
With her heart insisting on ripping out of her chest, she picks her heavy dress up and begins galloping back to the gym, where the party is at. XOXO can be nearby, she can't risk being attacked.
As she's crossing the second lane of vehicles, a tall, black-hooded figure stands on front of her as she's between two trucks. It is wearing a white, glossy mask that covers its entire face with a red kiss planted on its right cheek.
"W— who are you?" Lena squeaks, already knowing the terrifying answer.
Instead of answering, it blows a kiss at her before sprinting in her direction, snatching a knife from behind. Lena yells and begins to run as fast as she can while carrying the dress on her arms. She's yelling for help, but for some reason the parking lot is empty.
Where can Michelle be? Or Tony?
Her legs begin to feel weak and burning as she's continuing to head far away from the gym—the opposite direction she was currently aiming for. XOXO is trying to take her far from the crowd, so she has to find a way to get back to them.
She can hear him behind her while running, her breath shortening. Is this it? Is today the day she'll die? She never thought about that. Until now.
Strong hands slam into her back, tumbling her forward. The gravel scraping her delicate hands as she hits the ground. Her bun falls, making honey-blond, messy curls rain over her face.
Slowly, she examines her hands before moving the hair covering her sight. Blood smears over them. She doesn't dare to stand up and run as XOXO stands on front of her, knife tight in its hand.
It checks its pockets, taking out a black note. Later, handing it to Lena with a red sharpie.
"What do I do with the marker?" Lena asks, her voice quivering at the sight of her worst enemy.
It points at the folded card, referring for her to open it. So she does.
ᴛᴏɴʏ ᴏʀ ᴍɪᴀ? ᴄʜᴏᴏsᴇ—ᴏʀ ɪ ᴡɪʟʟ.
"What are you going to do to the one I circle?" she chirps, feeling the adrenaline in her blood.
XOXO just stands there, not answering or even trying.
"Fuck you!" Lena yells, her face shading red, tearing the card in half. There's no way she's deciding someone else's destiny.
XOXO moves this time, kneeling close to her. Carefully, he caresses her soft face. Then, with the wooden handle of the knife, he knocks her in the head hard enough to hear a pop!
Lena falls backwards, unconscious. Not expecting what is happening to the others while she sinks into complete darkness.
