He was trying to do the right thing and because of that I respected him very much. No matter how hard it was, I was truly honest when I told him I didn't want to cheat on Steve. At the same time, if I didn't go to my room, I'm not sure we could avoid something. This evening was proof that the connection was created between us in the past, whatever it was, and it's still very alive and powerful. That is why it was best to spend the rest of the night separated.

I was overwhelmed and still wondered whether I was right to leave him alone. Even though the experience in the elevator threw the shadow on the rest of the evening, I had to remind myself of how this day started, Billy crying for his dad. He really shouldn't be alone tonight. Not to mention that we were wasting a precious time because when he returns to LA, I will probably never see him again. He'll marry her.

Turning in the bed, I could no longer bear insomnia. It was very cold in the room. I got up to shut down the air conditioner, picked up the phone, and got back to bed.

     Me: Are you awake?
Billy: I just wanted to order something.
Me: Can we talk through the phone?

It didn't past three seconds when my phone rang. "Hi."

     He whispered: "Hey."

"Sorry.", we said at the same time. "You go first.", I said.

"I'm sorry for what I said in the elevator. I lost control."

     "You were honest."

"It doesn't justify me, I'm sorry for the way I said it, you bring out the worse in me."

     "Wow, I'm touched."

     "Fuck, I didn't mean..."

I laughed. "I think I know what you're trying to say."

"Thank God you've always been able to understand what I wanted to say.", he said. "Look, I have a few questions. I don't know if this is my last chance to ask you."

     "Okay."

     "Are you and Steve serious?"

"How did you find out about him and I in the first place?"

     "Answer me first."

"Steve is a good guy and we love each other. Now tell me, how did you find out?"

     "My father told me."

"I thought you guys didn't talk to each other."

"We still talked from time to time. I asked him once for you and then he told me. I assumed it meant that you were
happy."

"Yeah.", I paused. "Did you have other girlfriends except Liz?"

"Liz is my first serious relationship. Before that I was just messing around."

     "I understand."

"I didn't mean...you weren't part of that. What happened between us was different."

"I know what you mean.", after a certain pause I said. "I want you to be happy, Billy. If you're happy with her, I'm happy too. You told me she was the best thing that ever happened to you. That's great."

"I didn't say that.", he said sharply.

     "You did, you said that."

"I said she was one of the best things that happened to me. And that was you too, just at another time."
