I sighed as my feet swished around the water of the lake as I sulked in my own sadness. My eyes seemed to continue to water everytime a thought of Jennie popped into my head. About how the smooth water reminded me of how gentle Jennie always was with me. About how the refreshing smell of the woods reminded me of how good she smelled.
I couldn't help but let the tear slip out of my eye thinking about her. I heard a twig snap behind me but I figured it was either Jason here to take me out of my misery or an animal.
Yet, my eyes widened when I heard her voice.
"I thought I'd find you here."
-
I turned around and saw Lisa leaning against a tree. I turned away from her and started rubbing the tears away from my eyes.
"What do you want?" I muttered coldly while pulling my feet out of the water to hug my knees.
Lisa's my ex.
Not as in a girlfriend-girlfriend relationship but as in just a friendship. We were best friends all the way from pre-school to middle-school. But, when Highschool came around she just left me for another friend group. I know people find it pathetic to be sad over losing a friend but I just wish she wouldn't cut me off completely for other people when I knew her the most, out of complete pettiness, I too started ignoring her when she realized her mistake and would try to come in contact with me again.
She came and sat down next to me, "Jennie told me what happened..."
I wasn't surprised by this. Jennie was friends with Lisa whenever they had the same classes. I wouldn't tell Jennie anything about the conflict between our friendship to avoid her thinking I was controlling, I can't control who she befriends.
I sighed and wiped my now puffy face while staying silent.
"She told me to tell you to meet her at Danny's Icecream Parlour at 11:00 tonight." I perked up at Lisa's words and raised my brow in question.
"What?" I said, my voice weak.
"She texted me to tell you before her parents took her phone away. She told me she was going to sneak out so I suggest you better start heading over there." She said with a small smile at the end.
I looked up towards the lake and noticed it was already nighttime, accompanied with the sounds of crickets and frogs croaking in the water. The lampost nearby was the only light for us.
I scurried to my feet while placing my shoes back on, "What time is it?" I asked in a hurry.
"10:50." She replied.
"Shit," I said while running towards my bike, leaving Lisa behind.
I quickly came running back to her, pulling her into a hug.
"Thank you," I spoke sincerely while she wrapped her arms around me after a few seconds of shock.
"No problem y/n/n."
-
I turned off the engine to my bike and jumped off heading towards the entrance. I practically burst through the doors of the ice cream parlor to see no one inside but the scooper who looked bored out of his mind, ready to close the store.
I pulled out my phone and the time read 11:05. I cursed myself once again hoping that Jennie wasn't going to leave because of my lack of being punctual with time.
Before turning around to inspect the other tables I was tackled to the ground. I'm not even joking I went face first into the ground with a groan.
The tackler gasped and turned me around to start apologizing.
"I'm sorry y/n. I didn't think you would actually fall." Jennie giggled while staying in her position straddling my waist.
"JEN-" I was cut off when she roughly brought our lips together in a passionate kiss.
I brought her closer to me by her neck as the kiss deepened. I softly pushed her away, remembering where we were. She helped me stand up as I checked to see the scooper gone, he probably went to the back.
She dragged me over to her seat and pulled me into her embrace. I reciprocated the action while closing my eyes to enjoy the feeling of being back in her arms. I softly brushed her hair as her head lay below my chin.
She started to shake in my arms so I looked down at her to notice her teary eyes as she began to cry.
"Hey-hey-hey, It's ok. We're fine, we'll be fine as long as we have each other, right?" I said trying to reassure her.
She nodded while letting me wipe away her tears away with the pad of my thumb.
"I'm j-just sorry. I'm sorry about my parents. I'm sorry about dealing with me. I'm sorry about-" I cut her off with a kiss.
I pulled away saying," Don't apologize for something you can't control Jen. It's not your fault that your parents just don't like me... but don't ever apologize for 'dealing with you' because I love you and I would do anything for you rather than 'deal with you' as if it meant nothing."
She pulled me into another hug. "I love you too."
I kissed the top of her head as we stayed in that position until we eventually were kicked out of the parlor. We walked out hand in hand and headed over to my bike.
She explained to me that she snuck out once her parents were asleep and were just hoping that Lisa had given me the message. I reassured her of course by showing up. I rode the bike over to her house, stopping a couple houses away to avoid waking her parents. She got off the bike and we walked the rest of the way over there with my arm wrapped around her shoulder and hers around my waist.
We stopped in front of her house and waited for what seemed like an eternity, neither of us wanting to leave the other.
"I'm moving out when I'm 18, just a few months away..."She started.
I nodded as she continued, "Will you be there for me when I do?"
She fiddled with her fingers nervously and avoided my eyes, fearing that I'd say no.
"Of course. I'll always be there for you Jenn," I spoke while pulling her into yet, another hug.
"Wait for me." were her last words as she kissed me for one of the last times and headed back inside.
