Ah yes, the musician.

Such an underrated position to hold in the palace.

No one understood the actual struggle one must go through when it comes to understanding and satisfying the different music tastes of the royals, especially the picky ones.

Surprisingly, you managed to overcome these grand obstacles from the very beginning.

As odd as it sounded, right after your mother had to step down due to her weak frail fingers, you were overly eager to step in her place and take care of her guzheng.

You played whenever the family was enjoying their afternoon meals but your main responsibility was playing for the royal princess Park Chaewon, who you were also madly in love with.

She requested you to play for her every single night ever since the first time you played for them.

Tonight was no different as you began getting ready to head over to her room for the night.

You wore your uniform and placed a hat with fabrics that hung around the rim loosely in order to cover your eyes, it was considered inappropriate for you to look at the princess at any time.

Then again, that never stopped you before from sneaking a few peeks at her.

Walking to her quarters you finally stopped in front of her room where two guards opened the door for you to enter.

You bowed politely before entering, seeing Chaewon's back facing you as she wrote on her table in caligraphy.

You stayed silent as you took your spot in the corner of the room where your instrument awaited you.

After placing the picks on your right hand, you rested your left on top of the strings of the guzheng.

"What'll it be tonight, my princess?" you questioned softly.

Without turning to face you, she simply answered with, "Spring River Flower Moon Night."

"Of course," you began.

She requested the same song every night.

She set her brush down and faced you to focus all of her attention on you.

You swayed to the sounds of the strings and shut your eyes to fully embrace the music.

Unbeknownst to you, Chaewon watched you with admiration, a soft smile played across her face.

Once you finished the song, you were about to freestyle any songs you could recollect(which is what you normally do) but Chaewon's voice stopped you from doing so.

"Can you take off your hat?" The question was so simple yet such a heavily weighted request at the same time.

You gulped and hesitantly shook your head 'no'.

"Why not?" She pressed on.

"It's forbidden." Those were the only two words you managed to choke out as she continued to watch with curious eyes.

She's never seen your face, what if she's disappointed with what you look like?

No, the princess wasn't that cruel.

Without another word, she stood from her spot on the floor and walked towards your corner.

Your words were caught in your throat as you felt her presence directly in front of you now.

She brushed her fingers around the rim of your hat and slowly began to lift it up. Your breath was caught in your throat as you felt the hat missing completely.
