This was a mistake.

You weakly held onto a rose as you watched your friend, Chaewon, squeal in happiness(and slight embarrassment) as a guy from her math class held a promposal poster before her.

She said yes if you couldn't already tell by her reaction.

Your fist clenched around the stem of the rose as you watched the scene with envy, you had been too late.

A thorn that had been missed by the florist pierced through your hand and you began to bleed. You looked down at the pool of red gathering in your hands and silently cursed yourself while making your way to the restroom, quickly walking past them in the halls hoping Chaewon wouldn't notice you.

Your eyes began to well but you refused to let the tears slip.

It's fine.

You repeated over and over again until you entered the restroom. You waited so long to be with Chaewon, you were so patient with her, and for what? to give herself away to some random guy from her class in seconds??

A tear shamefully escaped your eye, you didn't bother to wipe it, too focused on rinsing the blood from your hand.

Your chest ached as you replayed the scene of her jumping excitedly and hugging him.

That should've been me, you thought.

You shouldn't even be acting as if this was any new news to you. Chaewon has been going on and on about the new transfer student in your math class for the past two weeks, I guess you were just kind of hoping nothing between them would happen.

You ignored all the signs, guess it didn't really work.

Suddenly the door opened, causing you to jump in your spot and look at who just entered.

"I think I saw her run in here- Y/N!" the voice screamed your name as they saw your bleeding hand in the sink.

Kwon Eunbi, your best friend, yelped as she saw your current state. Rushing over to you, she held your face in her hand examining it, frowning at the sight of your puffy eyes.

She released a sigh and turned the sink off while grabbing some towels to wipe away the remaining blood on your hand. You noticed her girlfriend, Lee Chayeon, leaning against the corner with her arms crossed, a frown also displayed on her features.

"We saw what happened...are...are you okay?" Eunbi knew it was a dumb question to ask anyone who was in obvious pain, but she didn't know exactly what else to say.

Ever since freshman year, all you would do was talk about how you wanted to ask Chaewon to prom, and at the time it seemed impossible because the girl didn't even know who you were. Until Junior year, of course, you both were in the same English class and it gave you both the perfect excuse to start talking to each other.

It was a little awkward on your end of course, but slowly the two of you began talking and eventually became really good friends. You were never against the idea of becoming her friend, all you wanted to do was get to know her even more. But, you also hoped that throughout the time you both spent together, that maybe...just maybe, your growing feelings for her were reciprocated in the end.

You had been dropping hints that you liked her throughout the past weeks, hoping she'd catch on, but as you could see now, all your attempts went unnoticed by the girl.
