There was something about her eyes today-no her laugh, or was it her smile?

The way she threw her head back after every joke you made?

Maybe it was the way she slapped you with an annoying grin after you teased her for her height?

What was it?

What was it about her today that made you entranced?

You had never looked at Hitomi before the way you did at this very moment.

You started to notice the little things about her features, the way her brows knitted together cutely in the middle when she smiled a little too hard, and how her small slim fingers somehow managed to fit so perfectly well into yours.

It wasn't until the day after when she locked eyes with you on your way to the cafeteria, that you found your heart hammering in your chest at a speed it had never done before.

And then you finally realized what this meant.

You were developing feelings for your friend.

You liked Hitomi.

It's a shame she has a boyfriend.

"Do you think the clouds in the sky are just Angel farts?" you asked as you gave half of your egg sandwich to Hitomi.

"No, I'm pretty sure it has something to do with water...not sure what exactly but it's water," she answered, completely unfazed by your question.

You both sat in a comfortable silence at the bench in an almost empty park.

You watched Hitomi silently as she zoned out while eating her half, a cherry blossom slowly broke off the tree hanging above her and glided down to the top of her head.

Smiling at how cute and clueless she looked in the moment.

Pulling out your phone discretely, you took a picture of her and giggled.

The giggling pulled her out of her zone as she turned to see what you were doing. Rolling her eyes, she whined while trying to take the phone out of your hands as you pulled away.

"Yahh y/n! That's not funny! Delete it pleaseee"

You shook your head 'no' and simply put your phone back into your pocket which made her frown.

Both of you had been spending your summertime together like this.

Hanging out at the park, beach, movies-everything.

Yet, you both never seemed to get bored of each other. That's what had made you insecure about your friendship, to begin with. You always thought that maybe if you hung out too much, she'd grow annoyed, but she's never said or done anything that said otherwise.

An hour later you both had decided on taking a walk on the beach, it was a nice day.

Grabbing ahold of your hand, you felt a warmth in your chest spread as Hitomi smiled while swinging your hands in the air.

"We should go to a party," Hitomi stated.

You looked at her with your brows furrowed.

"Why all of a sudden?" you asked.

She took a moment to think about her answer then said, "Well since we finally graduated high school, I think it's sort of a right of passage that we go to at LEAST one party, don't you?"
