I sighed as I helped my sister dress for her ceremony. "Smile sister," Hadaya spoke, "I am getting my totem today aren't you happy?" I nodded
"Yes of course," I said I looked over her shoulder with a small smile building on my lips as I looked at her "You look so beautiful," I said looking at her through the mirror her smile was wide and she looked beautiful. She placed her hand on mine looking at herself for a little longer. I exhaled through my nose savoring this happy moment with my sister, the door opened and mother walked in covering her mouth in a happy gasp.
"My beautiful girls," she spoke, her thick accent rolling off her tongue bringing comfort to us both. She placed her palms on both of our cheeks "you ready?" my sister nodded we all took in a big breath as I watched my sister smooth out her dress and follow my mother out, our bare feet leaving tracks in the soil. We looked out at our village folk and family members who stood tall and with pride at this joyous day. I watched as my sister was bonded with the stone that sat in the air totem, her skin lit up with golden hues as it traveled over her body. My sister fell to her knees as the known sensation of pain passed. Her eyes stared up as the wind picked up around us and the necklace was hooked around her neck.
"Hadaya is now a protector of our village, behold the keeper of air," The village elder, Zar spoke with conviction in his voice as Hadaya stood with a smile gracing her lips. I smiled happily at her with a pride smile on mine. She walked down from the altar saying hello to the villagers as she passed them. The celebrations soon ended when warriors came into view. I looked at my parents.
"Evacuate the villages, we will figure out what they want," I told my mother who nodded starting to yell at villagers to return to their homes. The warriors got closer and started to resemble that of the Dora Milaje, Wakandans. "Wakandans," I said repeating my thoughts, the black panther stepped into view soon after. "Can we help you," I shouted from a distance that was far but still in hearing range.
"I was informed that my son was seen around here," I snorted
"He left a few days ago, we have no idea his whereabouts," I snarled angrily at the king, one of the women came forward like she was going to attack from my tone but the king put a handout. "You should look in the forest, that's where I last saw him," I said "my king," I said venom lacing my voice
"What was he doing in your village?" the king asked
"He lied to seek refugee for an injury," Kazi spoke for me as my sister pulled me back knowing I'd probably say something that would anger the king. "He probably made it onto another village and is seeking refugee there," Kazi told him and I rolled my eyes but I kept my mouth shut. The king looked to his warriors nodding and they walked forward.
"Than you won't be opposed to us checking?"
"We would be opposed," I said "You came into our village running a village tradition. We answered your questions know we would like you to leave," I spoke glaring at the women who walked forward toward our homes. "So leave or you will be breaching ancient laws and that's cause for war," I said knowing they wouldn't breach the laws that were created by our ancestors. The king looked at his warriors and spoke some words and they backed up "If we see your son we will send his your way,"
