"A-a-and what's that Doc?" Michael asked, and Hailey went to reach his hand.
Michael glanced down and intertwined the twos fingers together. Hailey caressed his hand to help calm him as well as herself down.
The doctor sighed, and looked at the both of them.
"There was a complication a few hours after Peter was born. He was doing fine, until he started wheezing" the doctor said, and Hailey looked at Michael and then back at the doctor.
"W-w-what if h-h-he j-just inherited a-asthma from m-me?! That's possible, r-right?!" Hailey asked trying to make a solution to this complication.
"Yes" the doctor said nodding. "That's what we thought after looking at both of your medical histories. We decided to do a breathing treatment, and waited for a few minutes to see any improvement" the doctor said and Hailey bit her lip.
"A-a-and?! Was there any?!?" Michael asked jumping into the conversation.
"For a moment, until..." the doctor stopped and Hailey knew what the next words out of his mouth would be.
"H-h-he's gone.... I-I-isn't he?" Hailey asked, tears falling from her eyes. Michael looked at his wife, his own eyes starting to tear up.
"I'm so sorry..." the doctor said, and Hailey shook her head and bursted out crying. She knew deep down it was going to happen.
Those pains she felt, weren't birth pains... she remembered those pains like it was yesterday. The horrible pains of loosing a child you've carried and loved for months. All the words the doctors said, started flooding back to her...
"Just say it!" Hailey said getting a bit angry, and her eyes welled up in tears. Michael kissed her head, and rubbed her back with his free hand.
"Well.. unfortunately..." The doctor stated. "You had a miscarriage" the doctor said, making Hailey gasp and then cry. Michael gasped and pulled his wife into his side.
Hailey pulled her hand away from Michael's and kept crying. Tears fell down from Michael's own face, but he had to stay strong for Hailey.
"I'll leave you two alone..." the doctor said quietly exiting the room for the two to grieve in peace.
"B-babe..." Michael stuttered out, his voice cracking. Hailey looked up at him and pulled him into a tight hug.
"I-I'm so so soRRY" Hailey cried out into Michael's chest.
"Shhh, shhh, it's not your fault Hailey..." he said softly as he rubbed her back. "It just wasn't meant to be, okay?" Michael said rubbing her back.
Hailey kept crying into her husband's chest, as she felt tears fall from him own eyes onto her. She pulled away slightly to look up at him.
"Y-you're cr-crying?" Hailey asked softly, and took his hand in hers.
"N-nope" Michael said as he sniffled, making his wife sigh.
"I-it's okay... t-t-to have feelings... it's okay to cry babe" Hailey said with a sniffle following her words. She knew he hated showing emotions, and always wanted to be strong for her and Skylar.
"I-I-I just kn-knew" Hailey cut off Michael, just wanting to be strong for him for once.
"Come here" Hailey said, moving over on the hospital bed and patted it. "Lay down with me" she said, her eyes all glossy.
Michael nodded and laid down beside her. Hailey smiled softly, and wrapped an arm around him as she laid her head on his chest.
Michael smiled softly as well, as he held her close to him. The two laid in a silence of grief for their baby boy.
Hailey then looked up at Michael, and he looked down at her.
"What's u-up?" He stuttered out to his wife.
"Just reminds me, ya know, of the first time we've ever cuddled..." Hailey said, remembering back to their teenager years and the Boy Band days.
Michael smiled softly and nodded at the girl.
"Oh yeah I remember babe" Michael said, placing a kiss onto her head. "You were so welcoming to me even though you didn't remember shit" the boy said laughing, making his wife laugh.
"Hey, you're the one who made the move to wrap your arm around me" Hailey said and the two blushed.
"Are you staying over night with me?" Hailey asked, but felt a bit rude for doing so.
"Yeah, of course I am!" Michael said, as if everyone knew he would.
"Here" Hailey said moving over so Michael could have room to lay next to her. "I don't want you to sleep in that hard chair all night" Hailey said as she patted the hospital bed.
Michael smiled and laid down next to the brown haired girl. He positioned himself so he could look at the girl in from of him.
"Do you mind if I...?" Michael asked, as he wrapped and arm around Hailey. Hailey shook her head.
"Not at all" Hailey said softly, feeling much more calm with Michael around.
Michael moved Hailey's hair away from her face, and the two locked eyes with one another. Their eyes were full of tears, and blood shot.
"I-I-I love you Hailey Smith" Michael stuttered out.
"I-I love you t-too Conor Smith" Hailey stuttered out as well before the twos lips connected.
A few days later, Hailey was home with Michael and Skylar. Everything felt normal again, even though there was still one missing piece.
"So when's Peter coming home?!" Skylar asked placing her hand onto Hailey's now flat stomach. The girl sighed and kneeled down to Skylar's level.
"Sky..." Hailey said, moving a stray hair away from her child's face.
"Yeah mommy?" Skylar asked, as Hailey looked up at Michael and back to her daughter.
"H-he won't be... h-he's gone Sky... I-I'm sorry" Hailey said tears welling up in her eyes. Skylar gasped and hugged her mom noticing her fragile state.
"He'll be back, right mommy?" Skylar asked and Hailey shook her head. Michael knelt down and touched Skylar's shoulder making her look at him.
"Skylar, I'm afraid not... he's gone f-forever... but we could always find another Peter?" Michael said as a tear fell from his own eyes, and looked at Hailey.
Hailey looked up at Michael, not knowing where this was heading. The boy winked at her, and she blushed.
"Really?! So we can have a different Peter? Maybe a girl like me? A sister!" Skylar cheered happily.
"Maybe! We don't know what will happen! It's like unwrapping a gift from Santa, you don't know what it is until it's reveled!" Hailey said trying to make a metaphor.
"YAY!" Skylar squealed and then sighed remembering about Peter. "I'm sorry mommy and daddy about Peter... I-I miss him..." Skylar said starting to sniffle. She never met him, but just feeling his kick gave light to her.
"Oh hunny, don't be sorry... it's not your fault. Besides, who knows when another version of Peter- maybe even a sister- comes!" Michael said and Skylar smiled at her dad.
"Please be soon daddy! I want a sister or brother!" Skylar said smiling and looked at her mom. "Please mommy!" The brown eyed girl whined out.
"I think we can do that, huh babe?" Hailey looked at Michael who smirked at his wife.
"Oh hell yeah" Michael said placing a hard kiss onto Hailey's lips.
