Coming to Detroit for the first time, you could understand why someone would choose to live here. Everywhere you looked everything just seemed so...advanced. Technology like this was in the country too, but cities boasted it a lot easier. You got a self-driving taxi to take you around the city to see the sights but there was too much to take in for one simple round trip.
Stepping out of the taxi after paying, you headed inside to your hotel where you'd be staying for the next week. You were here on vacation, a week long break from your exhausting and extremely boring job. Lugging your bags to the front desk, an android greeted you. Androids were seen in the countryーusually only richer families had themーbut they weren't anywhere near as abundant as here. It seemed everywhere you looked one was standing there.
"Welcome to the Detroit Luxury Hotel, how may I help you?" the android greeted you.
"Hi, I have a reservation," you said.
"Name, please?"
"(Y/N) (L/N)." Her eyes flickered as she accessed the hotel's database.
"Of course. Your room number is 104 on floor 3, and here is your key." She pulled out a keycard, blank on one side with the symbol of the hotel on the other. "Your door will unlock when the card is within 5 feet of it."
"Cool." You took it from her, turning it over in your hand.
"Enjoy your stay." She sent you a sweet smile and you returned it. Now to get to your room. You slipped the card into your pocket before wrapping your hands around your bags and dragging them towards the elevator. After arriving at your room and dropping your stuff off, you decided to take a walk and see a few of the sights, then maybe you'd treat yourself to dinner somewhere nice.
Heading out the hotel doors, you picked a direction and started down the sidewalk. It wasn't as crowded as you thought it'd be, but you figured that was because the work day wasn't over. Enjoying what was probably the city quietーyou could hear car horns, people's chatter, and thousands of footsteps but this is probably as quiet as it could getーyou let your feet take you wherever they wanted.
You had to've been walking for a couple hours when your feet got tired and you decided to sit on a bench. The streets were getting steadily more crowded as the work day ended and people went about their daily business, and you watched them with curious eyes. Cities were very different from countrysides, and as you've only ever lived in the country, city living was fascinating. You didn't think you could ever get used to this.
"Hey," someone called and you jolted from your thoughts. An android waved to you and you waved back, smiling politely. The LED on the side of his head was yellow as he approached and sat next to you. You've never talked to an android unprofessionally before, let alone seen one without a blue LED. What did the color mean? Maybe he was a special model. "I need your help."
"With what?" You'd never known androids to ask for help, but maybe this was a special task that required a human's aid.
"A really good hiding place." He nervously glanced over his shoulder.
"Oh." Your eyebrows furrowed. "Why?"
"I'm...playing hide-and-go-seek with bad people that want me dead, and if I can't avoid them they're going to shut me down and kill the family that bought me."
You gasped. "That's awful! Of course I'll help you." Your mind worked to think of where you could possibly hide this poor android, but being from out of town meant you only had one place. "I have a hotel room-"
"Perfect!" He took your hands in his. "Let's go."
You stood and led him back in the direction you came. "What's your name?"
