Wild Flower
I was walking along a straight path,
A laughing voice left me wayward and I stumbled,
I found a wild flower blooming in a barren land.
Bewitched by the desire to possess,
I plucked it.
Cared for it in a glass vase --
but nothing could keep it alive.
Watched the petals fall and the beauty die.
Watched it wishing,
I'd never tried.
