our adventures await.
geysers and acid pools,
bison and birds.
far too many tourists
clog the main trails.
we go off the beaten path,
find much more
than steamy water
and deadly colored pools
sunburns start peeling
by day three.
and you remember
that you're standing on
an active volcano,
with enough force
to decimate
the western United States.
it's an unnatural phenomena,
a weak spot in the mantle.
for a moment, you just forget
the science of it.
because what better way
to spend your days,
covered in sunscreen,
that ridiculous floppy hat,
sitting on a bench,
watching the geysers,
eating your overpriced,
mediocre ice cream?
in the end,
it's an intriguing experience,
figuring out how many tourists
come to see the sights,
and see them through
camera lenses, brochure photos
instead of with their own eyes.,
