When Trey used the last of the money in his extra account to pay Chad, he knew it was time to contact him to work out another deal. Chad’s blackmailing has dried up all of his additional cash and he wasn’t about to take anything from his family’s mouths because of his past lapse of judgment. He really thought by now that he would have been able to come up with a plan to put all of this to rest. The beginning of the week Trey asked Chad to meet him Friday morning for coffee at the same place as before.
When Chad arrived he saw Trey sitting at a table in the far corner of the coffee shop. He walked over taking a seat across from him. “I’m here. What do you want to talk about that couldn’t be handled over the phone?”
A waitress walked over gushing over Chad when she noticed he wasn’t wearing a wedding band. “Good morning, what can I get you?”
“A cup of Italian Roast coffee if you have it, no sugar and one cream,” he answered.
“Yes we do,” she said grinning making her attraction to exceedingly obviously. She turned her attention to Trey. “Can I get you a refill?”
“No thank you, I’m fine,” he said and she nodded before walking away.
Alone again, Trey started the discussion. “I can’t pay you the money you requested every week.”
“That’s bad news for you, not me,” he said unfazed.
He sat up leaning his arms down on the table. “Look, I’m tapped out. I can’t give you what I don’t have Chad. I asked you here to see if we can make modifications to the agreement?”
“Modify?” he asked smirking. “I must be in a good mood today to even consider hearing you out. Go ahead and talk,” he said leaning back in the chair and crossing his arms against his chest.
“Five grand is a lot of money to be shelling out weekly and I’m doing the best that I can. If you would accept one thousand instead I can work better with that amount.”
Chad sat up and laughed shaking his head. “You’re going to have to do better than that chum.”
Trey blew out a breath and came back with another offer. “Okay, two thousand but I can’t go any higher.” He sat there waiting on a response.
Chad rubbed his chin thinking over Trey’s proposal. After a few minutes of thought he finally replied. “I’ll take the two thousand, but I have a job for you. You do it and it will work off the other three thousand you should be paying me as well.”
“What kind of job,” he inquired.
He expressed amusement. “Does it really matter or would you like you prefer to find some way to scramble up the five grand?”
Trey’s tightened his jaw, holding back saying anything negative. He picked up his coffee taking a sip before he spoke. “I’ll do the job.”
Chad’s smirked grin widened pleased with having the upper hand. “Clear your calendar for tonight, you can join me and my crew. I’ll text you the details.”
“It’s not going to work tonight, I have plans with Angelique.”
He shrugged. “That’s not my problem, cancel them. I’ll expect to see you tonight.”
The waitress returned sitting down Chad’s coffee. “I’m sorry for the wait, there was a disaster in the kitchen.”
“Don’t worry about. I have to leave so I’m not going to be needing it after all,” he said flirting with the waitress.
