Epilogue: A Beginning after the Ending

Marinette's POV

It's all finally over... Hawkmoth, Oh, I mean Gabriel Agreste has been stopped and placed in jail. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a life sentence. There were a lot of charges against him. Knowing that the sole reason for Ladybug and Chat Noir existing in the first place has now been resolved, I couldn't help but think. Adrien... he... was my kitty this entire time. My black latex wearing catty goofball was the immaculate, kind, understanding, and just God blessed boy. To be honest, after comparing both sides of him and combining the two, I couldn't help but love both. It also led me to reflect on a very important question: Now what? Ladybug and Chat Noir are both run out of a job, things could get weird between me and Adrien now that we know our alter egos. It changes everything.... and now that Gabriel is out of the picture... I don't want Ladybug and Chat Noir to just disappear, like they served their purpose and they are gonna be forgotten. I won't accept that. However, what can I do... there's really no use for them anymore.

"Mari? What's wrong? You're crying," Adrien leaned his face down so he could get a better look at my  face, which was strewn with tears. I looked up at him, trying to find the words that were stuck in my throat.

"Adrien... I don't want what happened to change what we have. I'm just so scared that we won't have the same connection like we did as Ladybug and Chat Noir, cause let's face it, you only loved me for Ladybug," I put my face into my hands and continued to cry, I couldn't stand looking at him. I then felt two warm hands grab my wrists and bring them down so I could see that beautiful face again.

"Mari... what are you talking about?" Adrien looked at me with a concerned look filled with love, confusion, and empathy.

"Adrien... if Ladybug wasn't me, you wouldn't fall for me, you would have fallen for whoever Ladybug was, I would have been always just your friend," I choked out my words, I can't believe I'm actually cock blocking myself. Am I an idiot? No, just scared.

"Mari... I know I haven't told you this, but before I knew you were Ladybug, I already fell in love with you," I looked up at him, hearing those words. 

"Really?"

"Mari, no matter how you slice it, you ended up being Ladybug anyway, and I think both sides are pretty great. No matter how you thought that I would have loved someone else if you weren't Ladybug, you're still Ladybug now and honestly to me, that's just a bonus," I found myself tearing up again and leaning forward into his chest to cry again.

"Thank you, all I wanted was just for you to love me for me," I smiled up at him, who wore the biggest smile I've seen on his face in a long time.

"Everything we have done together, just you and me, those are the moments that matter the most to me. Being superheroes together just strengthened that bond even further. I wouldn't replace that for anything in the world. Now that I said all that, you're stuck with me now!" Adrien laughed as he ran his fingers down my sides and tickled me. I tried to squirm out of his iron grip but I couldn't and I kept laughing.

"H-h-hey Adrien, do you still have our-Hey! Stop Adrien! I think you made your point!" I laughed as he continued to lift me up and continue to tickle me. I rested my forehead on his and I finally felt at peace, "Hey Adrien, you still have your lucky charm right?" I asked, making him put me down and put his hand in between us and I saw his lucky charm bracelet shining in the sunlight. I brought my hand in between us to show my yellow and teal charm bracelet was still there too.

"I never leave home without it, what about you?" Adrien asked in a teasing voice, I giggled a little bit and nodded.

"It's my greatest treasure, Adrien, now that Ladybug and Chat Noir's job is over, I don't want to lose what we have," I started but Adrien softly cut me off.

"Ladybug and Chat Noir will never be over, their job isn't done. All we did was just finish a chapter in their story, which is centuries old. I do have to say that our story is the best one yet," Adrien whispered, making me smile brightly. Our story was the best wasn't it, if I could be completely honest. Adrien and the others continued to look at the newly rebuilt Paris with a comforting silence, a sense of renewed hope in our hearts, it feels nice... Later, a group of police cars came to apprehend Gabriel and take him into custody, as if there needs to be a court case to incriminate him. When they took him away, a police officer came up to Adrien with a police record in his hand.

"Are you Adrien Agreste?" the police officer asked as he tucked the police record away. Adrien nodded and gave the officer a questioning look.

"Yes... is there any business you have with me?" Adrien asked expectantly, I saw that he was a little bit afraid, why wouldn't he be? He was being talked to by an officer.

"There's someone waiting for you at the police station, the person arrived after the city got rebuilt, thanks to Ladybug, but the person would like to remain anonymous until you meet at the station," The police officer replied in a firm voice. Adrien looked at me and then back at the police officer, and at the rest of the group before nodding.

"Alright... I'll meet the rest of you guys at the police station, Mari, will you come with me?" Adrien looked back at me with pleading eyes, he should already know what my answer is.

"Of course! Let's go!" I took his hand and we walked to the police car together and the rest of us were escorted to the police station. When we got there, nothing could have prepared Adrien for what was coming.

Adrien's POV

"Come with me Mr. Agreste, there's someone you need to see," I was walking through the halls of the police station, gripping onto Marinette's hand tightly as we went to see this mystery person who was at the station waiting for me. Eventually, we reached a room at the end of the immaculate white hall and when the police officer opened the door. There was single table...a single light hanging above the desolate room... and a single person faced away from me. She was a blond, a little shorter than me but I could tell she was a lot older. She was around the same height as Marinette. When the door closed, she turned around and all I could feel was a wave of... I don't know... shock? It was a surreal feeling... She does look a bit older than I remember... but it was my mom. Emilie Agreste.

"Adrien... isn't that...?" Mari asked but her voice quieted as she couldn't form words. She knew who this woman was too.

"Adrien... it's been a while... there's so much I want to say to you... but... I figure I should say... I'm sorry... about... all of this..." Emilie spoke, I noticed there was a hint of regret and grief in her voice. I wouldn't blame her.

"No... it's alright... I'm just so surprised that you're actually here... I..." I started to say but I couldn't find the words as I stepped forward and hugged her, trying to channel all of my emotions into that one hug. I felt my mom hug me back in a firm but graceful embrace. I kept crying, I didn't know why but after seeing my mom again, it suddenly hits me how long she was gone. She was gone for 3 years, leaving no contact info, just a letter on my bedside table, giving the vaguest of explanations and the most heart-breaking of goodbyes. I guess... the void in my heart was filled by the amount of love I got in school, especially from Marinette, who I can happily say made me feel complete again. I felt Marinette smiling at me, tearing up through this reunion.

"I'm just so glad that your father has finally seen... the error of his ways. His restraining order was lifted as soon as he got arrested and the mayor invited me back to Paris. Oh Adrien... it's..." Emilie continued to cry into my shoulder as I comfortingly nuzzled her shoulder and I looked towards Marinette with a big smile as we completed my mom's sentence together.

"We know... it's all over..."
