Erica’s POV
“Did he say anything about where he’s taking you?” Kori questioned while sifting through my closet. It was Friday afternoon, being the day that Luke was taking me out on a date.
“No, I haven’t talked to him at all today,” I sighed. I had been texting Luke off and on yesterday but never anything from him today at all. I just figured he was busy at work or something.
“Really? Wow, I thought he may have texted you at least,” Kori said, turning back to me from my closet and pulling a few things out. “Try these on” she said, shoving the clothes to me. I laughed and headed off into my bathroom, picking out my favorite outfit out of what she gave me.
“Wow. Yes. Just yes,” Kori laughed while gesturing for me to do a spin. She had chosen high-waisted, distressed medium wash jean shorts with a white cropped tank top underneath. Finishing it off, she added an oversized red flannel and my black high tops.
“I’m impressed, Kori,” I told her. She over exaggerated a bow in a response.
“What time is he supposed to be over?” Kori asked me.
“Around 7, I think,” I said, checking my phone to double check,
“Okay, so he should be here in an hour!” Kori screamed. I laughed; she was always this hyper.
*three hours later*
It was currently 9 o’clock at night, and I was still waiting on the steps for Luke to show up. He said he would be here two hours earlier, but he had never showed up or even bothered to call me. Kori left about a half hour before Luke was supposed to come so she wasn’t here.
“Honey, are you okay?” Mom asked, sitting down next to me on the stairs. I hadn’t even noticed the tears spilling down my cheeks until she started to wipe them away.
“He said he would be here at 7,” I sniffled quietly. I heard her sigh from beside me.
“I’m sorry sweetie. Maybe he got caught up at work?” She suggested.
“Maybe this just wasn’t meant to be. I’m an idiot for thinking this would ever happen,” I said with sadness in my voice. Before Mom could say anything, I swiftly got up and trudged up to my room. I picked up my phone and dialed a number I knew too well.
“Kori?” I sniffled into the speaker.
“Erica? What’s wrong?” Kori asked with sincerity in her voice.
“He never showed up,” my voice cracked. I heard her mutter cuss words under her breath before she began to speak.
“I’m leaving right now,” She told me as I heard her front door open. I hung up the phone and started crying into my pillow. I was such an idiot for thinking that any of this would work out. It was just a stupid dream of mine that I knew was a long shot and it didn’t work.
“Hey, Eric,” Kori said opening the door and walking into my room. I jumped out of bed and wrapped her into a huge hug and let everything out. Kori was the one person I knew that would just listen and not judge me about anything, all while staying at my side.
We sat and talked for about a half hour my bedroom door opened, both of us turning to look at who it was. I met gazes with blue eyes that were apologetic and full of sadness.
“Luke?”
