Chapter 6

Petals

Steve James POV

Today, I have no choice, my older sister Stephanie was on her honeymoon and mom is busy preparing for her newest fashion collection on which will be featured on next month Vogue magazine. My dad had an appointment with his cardiologist at 9:00am. They woke me up at 5:00am to prepare myself, his doctor’s office is out of this city and it will take 2 hours of travel from here. My sister and her husband met on that hospital. Her husband is one of the youngest doctors that was attending my father’s case. She always said that the place is like a paradise. Well, maybe for her but not for everyone, especially me.

We arrived at St. Margaret Specialist and research Hospital, and I would say this hospital looks phenomenal. A good place for patients who needs rehabilitation and long term treatment.

We entered in the hospital lobby going to Dr. Samuel’s office, my dad’s cardiologist. When my dad stopped and looked at me “Son, I know you don’t like hospitals. Why don’t you go outside and walk for awhile? I’ll call you if I’m done.” He hold my hand and squeezed it for reassuring that he will be okay. I nodded and followed his order.

As I walked at the man-made park of the hospital I have seen a lot patients, nurses and doctors walking around and talking to each other. I walked farther until I reached at the miniature lake. It’s quiet and peaceful, the sound you’ll hear is the gushing of wind that kisses the lake. At the side of this lake, there’s a beautiful cherry blossom tree and a bench. I noticed a person sitting there watching the cherry blossom as it swayed its branches. She smiled while looking at it. I was awed by her beauty. Her rareness matches the cherry blossom in front of her. The petals that fell on her, makes it even more magical to look at.

I’m about to approach her when suddenly I saw teardrops falling in her beautiful face. Is she crying and trying to mask it with her divine smile? I watched her as she sat and enjoyed her loneliness. My inner self keep on saying that I should go and talk to her. but my body can’t moved. As I stared longer at her, I saw a sadness in her beautiful face. Is she heartbroken? If she was, whoever is that a****** he must be insane. Leaving her is like throwing a precious jewel in the middle of the ocean.

I heard a voice calling and that beautiful lady wiped her tears, stood up from the bench and reunited with the nurse who’s calling her. After she left, I went to the bench we’re she sat awhile ago and took a piece of cherry blossom petals that rested on the bench. As I looked at the petal in my hand the only thing that came to my mind is words that Stephanie said to me “That hospital is not just a hospital it’s a paradise.”
