Chapter 9
Nickname
Monica Levi POV
I don’t know what to do, I’ve never had a dinner with anyone aside of family, relatives and Patrick. And for the worst, I’m currently having a dinner in an exquisite restaurant with a person I barely known...
-----------------
Today, Patrick was not coming to visit me. Mom said he’s been busy at school and at his home for a week and he felt sorry for not coming here and be with me. I’m okay with that; does he think I’ll be mad if he doesn’t come here? Who does he think he was? I’m just irritated, that’s all..... Okay, I am little mad at him, I don’t have anything to do today and I felt lonely. Stupid Patrick this is all his fault. If he just didn’t go here every weekday, I won’t been expecting him right now!
I saw mom listing the things we needed to buy in grocery store. I asked her if she allows me to go there and bought those things; coz I don’t have anything to do. And as I expected she refused. But she allowed me to come with her and helped her to buy those grocery.
Where choosing some fresh apples when I heard a male voice greeted my mom. “Good afternoon Mrs. Levi.” I looked at my mother side and I saw a tall, dark and charming with sad-like blonde hair guy. Who’s wearing a well tailored pants and a shirt. He smiled at me as I hide myself at the back of my mother.
“Good afternoon too, Steve.”she greeted her back. “doing some grocery? I was surprised Mr. James. As far as I know you don’t need to do your some grocery. Are your maids off duty?” my mom joked.
He laughed “Mrs. Levi, no, I just bought this.” he showed a packet of beers. “And oh, this is not mine. This for my driver. Birthday gift.” wow, a beer for a birthday gift. I’ll say that’s the weirdest gift I’ve ever seen. They both laughed.
“Are you alone?” he asked my mom.
“ah, no! I’m with my daughter.” she answered as she puts both of her hands on my shoulder. “Steve this is Monica, my daughter. Monica this is Steve, one of my former students.” we shook are hands and smiled.
“Nice knowing you.” he charmingly said.
I nodded and looked to ground, murmured “Me too.”
He offered us a ride back home. We insisted at first but he managed to convince my mom to accept his offer. I was looking outside the window of his car when he suddenly asked my mom. “does your daughter also go to our school, Mrs. Levi?”
My mom answered. “No, she’s taking up home school modules.”
“oh.. I see. That’s way I never saw her at school.” he murmured. What does he mean? Do I know him? As I last checked my list of relatives and friends, the name Steve James was not written.
As we arrived at home my mom invited him to have a little snack, a way to thank him. He gladly accepted it. In some ways, Patrick and him has a similarity. Well I guess it’s their nature to be like them, maybe a thing to be cool in their school. Lucky for me, I don’t go there.
“You like movies?” he asked me while holding my Forrest Gump DVD.
“It depends on the story line.” I answered back.
“I know a place you can buy and borrow DVD. If you want we can go there after snack.” He offered me and before I answered he asked my mom for permission. “Mrs. Levi, can I bring your daughter to a DVD store?” my mom face became merrier and accepted again his offer.
“Mom I don’t need to buy or borrow a DVD. I can watched it in Netflix if I want to.” I protested. A disappointed reaction was written on his face.
My mom slightly slap my arm. “Honey, Come on you don’t need to be inside our house all day long. Go and have some fun outside.” she rubbed gently the back of my head and kissed it. I can’t help not to smile on her actions. I give up, and accepted his offer.
He smiled at me and said. “I’ll make sure you’ll have fun.”
After we went to the DVD store we passed by a mini-concert comedy bar. Those comedians really make laughed so hard. After that he brought me to a bowling center. We had a few rounds and I never thought I was good at it. “your naturally born for this.” He teased me after he lose 3 straight rounds. I just laughed at his teasing.
As we went out of bowling center the darkness of the night already covered the sky. I asked him if we can go home now. But he answered “Will have a last stop and promise we’re going home.”
We stopped in a restaurant that I never been since the day I was born. The waiter opened the door as we entered the restaurant. Oh, Gosh! Look at my attire... I’m the only one wearing jeans and rockstar t-shirt; ever one wears formal attire or cocktail dresses. I felt eyes behind me. I turned around but I felt a gentle hand holding my waist. He looked at me and reassured me that every thing will be alright. F*** no! How would I eat if every one is staring at me? Oh God, I don’t know what to do right now. Should I stay or go?
He noticed my nervousness, he cocked his head and give me a small smile. “Don’t be nervous, Don’t mind them. Just enjoy this dinner.” I didn’t answer him. I’m busy praying to God that make this night faster.
When our foods arrived I felt hunger and my inner self is ready to attack the foods. When suddenly I heard a small laugh. I looked at him and I saw him trying to hold his laughter I raised my eyebrows to him. He suddenly burst his laughter making the other people in the restaurant look at our table. I looked down at the table feeling embarrassed.
“I’m sorry Monica, I can’t help it. You really looked cute while your bitting your own lips.” he confessed. Me? Cute? Bitting my lips? Wait, I think I need to process this new infos in my brain.
We both started to eat. And during our eating session talked and laughed. I suddenly missed Patrick and wished he’s here laughing with me. He is my first friend and my BFF. How is he? I hoped his fine.
We ended our night standing outside my house in front of my doorstep. “ uhhhmm, Monica can I call you Monic?” his hands are on the pockets of tailored pants and looked nervous.oh, now is your turn. I asked him why? “I just love calling my friends with their nicknames. And I personally want to give you a nickname, if it’s okay to you?” Friends? Nicknames? This guy always give me new infos. But what will I lose if I agree to him?
“Sure, why not. Friend. ” I answered him with a smile.
“No call me Gorgeous.” He smirk. What a guy.... Too full of himself. I shook my head.
He shown a full smile, showing his beautiful teeth that can make others blind. We bid good nights and said goodbyes. I happily went inside our house and remembered the things that happened, I really had fun. Yes!!! I had fun... And oh, another name to add on my friend list.
