Like a duvet she was,
warm, soft and cuddly,
smelled like a bouquet of fresh daisies,
her words were sweeter than honey,
But I like prickling cold,
never smiled in the photos,
Purposely sat in the brushes of thorns,
Because I was a fan of rose,
Whenever the world would knock me out,
she was my band-aid,
My 2 a.m call for encouragement and relief,
every time my heart was played,
I'd drink my nights away with the unknowns,
seeking for the world of love and attention,
never realizing the blindfold of ignorance,
Always overlooking her unconditional adoration,
sleeping on the couch tired,
waiting for me every night,
with our only picture on the table,
my favorite food was in sight,
despite all that I took for granted,
she never gave up,
as I ran out of hope,
she was my backup,
pulled me back when I strayed,
helped me reach my dreamland,
I became desirable because of her endless struggle,
but I drowned in the addiction of lights, glamour and every temporary brand,
"it's only been a while apart,
I'll come back to you" I always said,
Lied about how I was soon going to reply,
to all the letters I never actually read,
She'd welcome me with open arms,
loving me was her responsibility,
As months change into years,
Even the soil under an evergreen runs out of fertility,
As I sit above the barrier I can never cross,
six feet by measurement but truly infinite miles,
I am alone and overwhelmed with feelings I cannot name,
How will I get through any of the inevitable trials?
Recalling her flawless face while reading her sweet words,
I imagine for another life with another chance, a different way,
I am sorry mom,
Will definitely be the first thing I'd say.
