Charlotte ||
It's been a few days since Gilbert beat up Billy Andrews for Charlotte, and the both of them haven't been to school since. Charlotte had Anne, but Charlotte still missed Gilbert. He was usually the one to make her laugh. The bruise had finally almost completely faded away.
Charlotte thought during lessons about the night Gilbert and her shared at the beach. She thought about how silent and comfortable it was, but the thing that made her heart race was when he said she was beautiful. They had stared into each other's eyes for a little while until Charlotte noticed Gilbert's hands and how bloody they were, so she had brought him back to his house and helped him fix his hands.Charlotte right then and there decided that she was going to visit Gilbert tonight. It was the most she could do, he had come to see her while she was sick. School drained on. During lunch Charlotte sat with Anne. "Charlotte," Anne said out of the blue cutting Charlotte's sentence off. "Yes?" Charlotte asked, as she was slightly confused. "Do you like Gilbert?" Anne questioned. Charlotte's eyes widened, but she thought about it. Charlotte did think about him almost everyday during lessons, and she was kind of proud when Gilbert beat up Billy. She also had this feeling when she was around him, like her stomach was doing flips. He is also breathtakingly handsome. Charlotte also thought back to the feeling she got when Gilbert touched her, and when he told her she was beautiful. It felt like a shock wave, and almost like a blanket of safety after. Deep down though, Charlotte wasn't decided if she liked him or not. Charlotte then sighed, thinking about her decision. "No," she finally said. Anne's eyes bulged out of her head and sparkled. "Good," she simply smiled. "Why?" Charlotte questioned as she was completely lost in the sauce. "I like him and I'm planning on asking him out," Anne explained, "please don't tell anyone because Ruby likes him too," Charlottes heart sunk and she didn't know why, but she also had the feeling of jealously. Charlotte is so utterly confused on what she's feeling. She said she didn't like Gilbert so why does she feel this way. Charlotte brushed it off and continued to eat her lunch with Anne.
Charlotte tried to brush off her feelings, but she really couldn't. Through the rest of the lesson she couldn't stop thinking about Gilbert and if she liked him. She remembers when he didn't even know who she was. She thinks about how they've really only been friends for about a couple of months. Charlotte looked at the window, and frowned once it started snowing. She hadn't brought a coat, so it's going to be cold for her to walk to Gilbert's house. Luckily, the snow was late this year. It normally started snowing at the end of October, but it's now the middle of the November and it's only starting. The snow that's falling might not even stay, it might melt.
Once lessons were finally finished Charlotte made her way to Gilbert's house. Mr. Phillips asked Charlotte to bring Gilbert his books so she had another reason to go see him. Charlotte walk through the snow, and caught a few on her tongue. Charlotte laughed as one landed on her forehead, tickling her.
Charlotte smiled once she finally spotted Gilbert's house. Charlotte lightly knocked on the door as she reached his house. Charlotte waited a few minutes, but no one came to the door. Charlotte's eyes brows knitted together, Gilbert always answers his door within seconds. Charlotte knocked again, but no answer. Charlotte put her face up to the door and looked inside. Nobody was walking around. She put her ear up to the door and that's when she heard quiet sobs coming from inside. Charlotte put her items on the porch, with Gilbert's books. She pushed open the door slightly. She then entered, "Hello!" She called out, "Gilbert?" No answer. Charlotte then decided just to follow the noise she heard. She made her way down a hallway. Then turned a corner and she found Gilbert. He's sitting at the bedside of his father's bed and is sobbing. Charlotte's heart broke into a million pieces. It broke Charlotte to see such a happy soul in such sadness. Charlotte sat down next to him, and she just listened to his quiet sobs. "Gil," she finally said. Gilbert immediately stopped and looked up to Charlotte. He wiped his tears quickly. "What are you doing here Charlotte?" He asked with his voice raised scaring Charlotte. "I came to see if you are okay and to drop some books off," Charlottes lips pulled into a thin lined smile. Gilbert then broke back into tears. "I'm not okay!" He yelled. Charlotte flinched, but opened her arms for him. Gilbert stared at her, crying, but gave in. Charlotte wrapped her arms around him and let him cry onto her shoulder. "He's dead Charlie," Gilbert said in between sobs, "My fathers dead,"
