Charlotte ||

Charlotte, Anne, and Gilbert decided on the weekend to have a beach day. The three packed up all of their things, and went to the beach. The three sat in a circle and talked. "Aren't you guys so excited for the wedding?" Anne exclaimed clapping her hands. Charlotte smiled, "of course love is in the air," Charlotte responded. An awkward silence filled the air. Charlotte felt like she said something wrong. Gilbert then began smiling. "I'm really hot," Gilbert said. "Don't get to cocky," Charlotte replied. "I didn't mean that way," Gilbert laughed. Anne quirked an eyebrow and grinned. "Charlotte are you feeling hot?" Gilbert questioned. "A little why?" Before Charlotte had time to react, Gilbert picked her up and ran towards the ocean. He jumped in, soaking the both of them. "Gil!" Charlotte screamed. Gilbert just laughed at the girl. Charlotte smiled and Anne joined the two. They splashed around and jumped the waves. The three smiled, laughed, and most importantly had fun. "Haha! I got you!" Charlotte yelled splashing Gilbert. He then splashed back and it turned into a big splash fight. Anne joined in laughing and yelling. "You are ridiculous!" Charlotte beamed as she continued to splash Gilbert and turning her head so she wouldn't get any in her eyes.

After a while the group of friends wadded out of the ocean and sat down on the sand. "Don't you love the feeling of sand?" Charlotte smiled. The three exchange looks, and sat in a comfortable silence. Charlotte caught Gilbert staring at her more than a couple of times. They soon got bored, and parted ways.

When Charlotte got home she hurried up to her room. She felt so gross and sticky. She wanted to take a quick shower and then pick out the dress should would wear to the wedding, which is in a few days. When she was in her room she heard somebody crying. She stepped out of her room, and put her ear up against her brother's door. She heard whimpering and crying from in there. She slightly knocked on the door. "Cole," She whispered. "Go away!" He screamed back. Charlotte had experience the words "Go away," before it's what Gilbert told to her when his father died. A shock went through her, but she relaxed. She opened the door once she realized it was unlocked. Cole's drawings were everywhere, all torn up. Charlotte's eyes widened, and she slightly gasped. She saw her brother face down on his bed with his head in his arms. Charlotte slightly bit her lip, then sat down next to him. She rubbed his back, trying to make him stop crying. "Those boys are mean," Cole muttered. Charlotte's heart pinched at the words. "Those boys" she knew exactly who he was talking about. "Billy Andrews?" She quietly asked. "Yeah," Cole sighed sitting up. Charlotte's mouth opened slightly once she saw her brother's face. A big blue bruise was forming around his right eye, and his lip was busted open. He also had dry blood coming from his nose. "Can you tell me what happened?" Charlotte questioned. "They made fun of me," Cole started, "they said my drawings were bad and that I should go die and then they beat me. Beat me half to death," He breathed out. Charlotte shook her head with distraught. "Okay you don't have to worry about them Cole I'll deal with them, and I'll fix you up," She informed him and standing up. "No I don't want him to hurt you," Charlottes eyes softly scanned her brother. "Don't worry I think if he laid a hand on me Gilbert would kill him," She explained. She left the room and grabbed the first aid kit then went back. "What's going on between you and Gilbert Blythe anyway," He smirked. Charlotte sighed, "I don't know anymore," Cole smiled, "you like him don't you?" Charlotte slightly rolled her eyes. "He's my best friend of course I like him," She chuckled. "I mean as a crush," Cole replied. Charlotte nodded, "I-I," She stuttered, "I don't know," Charlotte does know but she had a feeling that Cole would tell her mother, or Gilbert. "I know he likes you," Cole responded. Charlotte shook her head as she wiped away the dry blood on her brothers face. "What color dress are you going to wear to the wedding?" Cole asked. "Hmmm," Charlotte thought, "I'm not sure," Cole smiled, "I know the perfect color for you," He said, "baby pink," Charlotte imagined herself in the color pink. It would defiantly bring out her eyes, and her hair. "That's a great idea Cole," She informed him. "I have a special dress in mind," She smirked.
The next day at school Charlotte had a plan. A plan to tell Billy Andrews off. It pained Charlotte to see her brother yesterday. How busted his face was. He stayed home today.
As soon as Charlotte spotted Billy Andrews she confidently walked up to him. She slapped him across the face, and then pushed him into the wall. "You ever put your hands on my brother again it's going to be lot worse than just a slap,"  Charlotte muttered with violence dripping from her words. She pushed him before she took her seat. Everybody had watched her slap Billy and now everybody was staring at her. Gilbert sat down next to her. "Are you alright?" He asked. "I'm fine Gilbert," She spat, "I just need to fight this battle on my own," Gilbert sighed. "What do you mean," Charlotte brushed a piece of her hair behind her ear. "I mean I can fight Billy Andrews and his hurtful words by myself Gilbert," Gilbert's eyes softened. "When my father died you stayed even though you told me to go away," Gilbert said, "so I'm not going away. No matter how much you persist, I'm going to stay right here. Right here next to you,"
