Charlotte ||

Gilbert's leaving soon, so Charlotte, Anne, and Gilbert are going to the pond for a canoe ride. There's a few down there, hopefully, they will get one. Most families go for canoe rides in the summer.

When the three arrived they packed their things into the canoe they were taking. Gilbert volunteered to steer the boat. Charlotte plopped down and fixed her dress. A man helped Gilbert push the canoe into the water. Gilbert hopped into the canoe and sat in front of Charlotte. Anne sat to the side. "It's a beautiful day," Charlotte said taking it in. She closed her eyes as the sun beamed down on her. "It sure is a magnificent day," Anne agreed. Gilbert nodded. Charlotte smiled as the three sat in a peaceful silence.

There was a slight breeze blowing their hair. Charlotte watched as Gilbert's curls went crazy. It made her think of her drawing. She was almost finished. She's planning on giving to Gilbert as a goodbye present. She thinks he would love it as much as she does.

"Look there's some ducks!" Anne whisper-shouted, pointing at the animals. Charlotte smiled at the graceful swans that were near the ducks. "There are some swans as well," Charlotte informed Anne. The girls admired the animals, while Gilbert admired Charlotte. Her eyes looked even brighter against the water. Her smile made him smile. Charlotte is absolutely stunning on the inside and outside.

After a few hours on the lake, the three decided to stop and go out for lunch. They had brought their own food for a picnic. They sat comfortably under a tree in the shade. Anne and Charlotte pulled out the food for the three of them to share. Charlotte poured water into the glasses as Anne unwrapped the sandwiches and placed them on plates. Gilbert laid down the blanket and sat on top of it. He grabbed his sandwich from Anne with a thank you.

Once everything was unpacked, they ate. They had sandwiches, strawberries, muffins, yogurt, and water. Charlotte sat next to Gilbert and she kept glancing at him. "Did you hear Ruby the other day?" Anne asked Charlotte. "No," She responded. Anne's eyes got wide, "she wouldn't stop blabbing about Gilbert," Anne told her. "Really?" Gilbert joined the conversation. Charlotte hated talking about Ruby. "She was talking about cute you were when you rejected her," Anne answered. They burst into laughter. Charlotte was laughing so hard her stomach hurt, and Gilbert had tears had in his eyes. "How could that girl be so oblivious," Gilbert made out of letting out a breath. Anne shook her head wiping away tears. "I told her I don't like her and she's still not over me," Gilbert huffed, "Girls," Charlotte chuckled. "She's liked you since the third grade it's more like she loved you," Anne joked. Charlotte turned and met Gilbert's eyes. It went silent and an awkward tension held in the air. "Anyways," Charlotte interrupted, "The poor girl will eventually get over you," Gilbert nodded agreeing. Anne continued eating her sandwich in silence.

Anne had to go home early so she left. The sun was setting as Gilbert and Charlotte walked side by side. "We should go to the beach," Charlotte suggested. Gilbert grinned, "That's a great idea,"

Charlotte and Gilbert sat in the sand staring out into the ocean. The sunset was ever so beautiful. The pink faded perfectly into the striking red. Charlotte stood up and motioned Gilbert to follow her. She walked right into the ocean, getting her dress wet. "What are you doing?" He asked following her in. "Getting a better look at the sunset," She replied, "It's beautiful," Gilbert was now standing in front of her. He was extremely close. Their bodies almost touching. "Not as beautiful as you," he said staring right into Charlotte's eyes. Charlotte smiled, she reached down and grabbed his hand. Feeling a slight spark as he squeezed her hand.

"Kiss me," Charlotte instructed in a soft tone. Gilbert blinked and let go of her hand, crushing Charlotte. "What's the matter?" She asked. "The problem is," he sighed, "if I did I don't think I would be able to stop and I'm too scared to lose you," Charlotte almost slapped him, but instead she grabbed his face and kissed him. His lips were soft and had so much passion in them. Charlotte felt like her bones were on fire, and for once her soul was alive.
