Chapter 24

Caytlyn POV

"Charles and Alli aren't my real parents. I've been with them for almost three months now. I watched my dad walk out on us two years ago. I haven't seen him since. My step dad killed my mom three months ago. Them he lied to the police so he could try to kill me too. Charles and Alli came into my lives and took the role as my parents. They're great people but there's one thing. I will refuse to call Alli 'mom', but I called Charles 'dad' last night. It seems as if she takes all of her anger out on me, but Charles doesn't." I look over at Alli. She's sitting there shocked. "I have three biological siblings. They're all older than me. My older brother, Jackson, is 18. He's just starting college. My older sister, Lindsay, is 20. I haven't seen her in years. Then my oldest brother, Kade." I stop. I feel a tear run down my face. I haven't heard anything about Kade in years. Someone said he died from a car crash. Some say he's in hiding. I've also heard things saying he's changed his name. I wipe the tear from my eye. "Uhm, that's all I have to say." I leaned back into my chair. The principal looks at me with sadness in his eyes. He could tell I was uncomfortable talking about it. "Ms. Trippy, I am allowing you to be dismissed from school for the day, if it's alright with your parents." I look at Charles and gives me a weak smile. "It's fine with us." He nods and writes me a pass. "Why don't you go get your stuff and I'll show your parents out." I nod and grab the pass. I walk to my locker. It's passing time so everyone's in the hallway. I get to my locker and feel two hands on my shoulders. "Are you ok?" I shake my head and Tyler hugs me. "I gotta get to class, but I'll see if I can get a hold of you tonight." I nod and he leaves. I grab my bag and walk back to the office. The halls are less crowded since passing time was over. The principal is standing with Charles and Alli. "Ready?" I nod. They thank the principal and we leave the building. I hop into the back seat of the car and start crying again. Alli looks at me and then at Charles. "Hey Char? Do you want to drive?" He nodded and Alli got out. Charles got into the drivers seat and Alli hopped in back and sat next to me. "Cayt? Are you ok?" I shake my head. She pulls me into a hug and I cry into her chest. "I'm sorry Caytlyn." I pull out from the hug and wipe my tears. "It's fine." She plays with my hair and stops. We finally return home and I hop out. I run to my room and cry into my pillow. I hear a small knock on the door and both Charles and Alli walk in. Alli sits on the end of my bed and Charles pulls up a chair. "Cayt?" I sit up and Alli hugs me. "I owe you an apology. I'm sorry for being mean to you over the past couple of days. I'm still adjusting to all of this, and it's a little hard." She kisses me on the top of my head. I sigh. "I couldn't talk about Kade." Charles joins in on the hug. "It's fine if you can't Cayt." I shake my head. "I mean, I actually couldn't. I don't know what happened to him." Alli shakes her head. "It's fine. You don't need to tell us." They both let go and Charles leaves. Alli stands up and I stop her halfway to the door. "Mom?" She turns around. "Promise me you'll be at my game?" She smiles and nods. "I wouldn't miss it for the world." I smile and Alli leaves closing my door. I lay back down and feel something hard under the pillow. I lift it up and all my stuff is there. Including my phone. Gosh, I love them.
