I sipped my cup of coffee, trying my hardest to stay calm and collected. I graciously put my paper cup down after taking my last sip at my version of red ice.

I continued to stare down at my empty cup, feeling uneasy as I noticed in my peripheral vision, Rupert was glancing around nervously.

I sighed deeply, feeling uncharacteristically calm for a situation like this. Although, angry was definitely up there.

Now I have to deal with... this.

"Um, so, this is what inside a police department looks like..." his words quivered.

I finally looked up him, giving him a cold glare. "What the hell do you want?"

His eyes trembled as he stammered, "what do I want...? I..."

I sighed again, rolling my eyes. "What were you doing at my house?"

"Err... looking for you?"

"How did you even find my house?"

"I..." he shuffled his feet anxiously, "I followed you home."

I sighed again, rubbing all over my face with my hands.

God... this guy-

"I can explain! If you just let me-"

"Seriously? You're lucky I even let you off," I crossed my arms, huffing annoyingly at this fool.

"Okay, can I explain?"

"Be my fucking guest," I spat.

"Can I get off these handcuffs first? Or is that asking too much?"

"Spit it out, asshole!"

"Okay, okay," he shuddered. "You... do remember me, right?"

"I guess you can say that, Rupert." I stressed his name with my lips.

"Then... why? Why do you keep avoiding me?" Sadness laced in his voice, oddly leaving a pang in my heart. "All I wanted to do was be with you... I thought we were meant to be."

I chuckled to myself.

Really?

"I know that I was with you for a brief moment, but I became too fond of you... you enchanted me with your eyes."

"I don't know if you don't know this, but fairytales ain't real."

His eyes casted down sadly, making my stomach churn.

Stop looking so sad...

I gritted my teeth, almost regretting my cold demeanor.

"But... can't we just... try?"

"No..." I breathed silently.

His eyes pierced mine with conviction, begging for answers. "Why? Tell me that and I'll leave you alone forever."

I balled my hands tightly, sinking my nails into my palms. I squeezed my eyes, a gut feeling of pity for myself welled up in my body.

"Because! Because everything I loved-"

The door abruptly opened with a slam against the walls, and Gavin appeared.

"What's all this yellin' for?"

Gavin-

A mixture of relief but frustration sigh escaped my lips. I'm not sure if I wanted Rupert to know what happened in my life. I don't know if I was ready for it, or if he was.

"Good timing, Gavin," I sarcastically perked up. "Escort him out."

"Wait-" Rupert pleaded.

"Just don't be an asshole," I added. I raised an eyebrow when I noticed Gavin holding a file, assuming it was mine. Otherwise, I don't know why he decided to interrupt. "What you got for me?"

"Oh," he started walking towards me, passing by Rupert, still cuffed. He dropped the file on the desk in front of me.

As I opened the files opened, and a list of serial numbers and Android models were listed. Followed by sheets of profiles of people. I scrunched my face together, the bridge of my nose wrinkled. "What's this?"

"List of suspects for the 'Bot Killer,' and a list of androids that was murdered related to them. You're off the case with the freak murder. Hanks takin' care of it. You're on this case with me," he winked, a smug smile slapped on his face.

I smiled forcefully, the corner of my lips tugged uncomfortably at my cheeks, "great!... can't wait..."

His smile deepened as he walked back, still his eyes fixed on me as he uncuffed Rupert. "The investigation starts tonight. We're going to the same place where we found the previous body. They seem to stay within the same area, not exactly the same location."

I shrugged, "whatever." I skimmed the profiles as Gavin walked Rupert out of the room.

I could feel Rupert's desperate gaze on me.

My heart twisted, almost feeling sorry for him.

Don't give in, (Y/N).

As the door closed behind me, I sank into my chair, sighing to myself. I continued to briefly look at the profiles, my heart still twisting and turning within my chest.

This is for your own good, Rupert.

I swung my feet like a child.

Everyone disappears when they're around me.

I clutched tightly on the sheet of paper, it crinkled under my grasp.

I wouldn't want you to go through that too.

My hands came to a halt when I noticed a familiar name. My eyes fixed onto it carefully, my thoughts of Rupert has dusted away.

Christian Alonzo

I pursed my lips together, rubbing my chin slightly.

Christian Alonzo, eh?

Okay y'all, I ain't gonna lie, the story seems so boring to me right now... and I'm going through a lil' bit of writer's block. I made a lot of plans for the future, but I didn't think about how to really start it, I guess. I'm trying to find ways to naturally build up to that point I planned without rushing the hell out of it. Hopefully it gets better, I'm sorry if it's boring. 😭 I won't blame you guys if you guys stop reading this, LOL
