"Yeonwoo, can you take care of Jay for a bit. I need to run to the market. I'll be back soon." Amy told the kid who was just twelve at that time.
"Sure Aunty." Yeonwoo said as he put down the basketball and went inside their house.
Jessie was already planning her evil deed for the day when he got in. She was holding a toy trumpet and slowly opening the door to Kai's room.
"Jessie!" Yeonwoo howled and the girl stopped on her tracks.
"Oppa!" She smiled and hide the toy on her back.
"Your brother is studying, you shouldn't disturb him. You should be studying, too!" Yeonwoo said as he took the toy from her hand.
"Want me to help you?" He said and Jessie nodded and smile.
That was their dynamics. He was the pseudo brother to her. Making sure she's not getting herself into trouble and most of the time, she takes the attention more than his sister who seems to have a world of her own.
When they were kids, Yeonwoo never thought of Jessie as more than a sister but as they grew up, when she hit puberty, he began developing feelings for her.
She was thirteen and he was seventeen. It was akward to say the least. But when she ran to their house crying because they will go back to Ilsan, he found himself holding back his tears.
"We'll still see each other don't worry." He told the girl. "I'll visit you in Ilsan. I'll be studying college in Seoul so it'll be just a two hour commute."
"You're just saying that to stop me from crying." She said and she wiped her tears.
"You're not wrong but— I'll missed you, too." He said.
Then Jessie looked at her and close her eyes. Inviting him and he oblige. It was just a quick kiss but it change him. They both hugged each other and said goodbye.
The promise he made was broken. College demands most of his time and on weekends he would choose to sleep the entire day or go to back to his parents house.
It took a year, a one boring day, to take his bag and rode a bus to Ilsan. On his way to their house, the girl he thought was waiting for him, was hiding behind a post, kissing another guy. It was quick but she welcomed it.
It hurt him, in more ways than one. She was not waiting, she was actually moving on.
She was young, he argued with himself. He stood there looking at them as the boy looks at her shyly. Then Jessie caught a glimpse of him and became scared.
After leaving the boy, she joined him and they started to walk to their house. "I won't tell your father. Don't worry." Yeonwoo said as he smiled.
"Why are you here, oppa?" Jessie said as they walk to their house.
Yeonwoo didn't answer, he walked slowly not even looking at her. He kicked a pebble on the ground and Jessie walked faster and kicked the same pebble.
She's still young. Yeonwoo repeated to himself.
"Is that your boyfriend? The one you're kissing awhile ago?" He pretended to be curious but the truth is that it was more of an angry query.
Jessie turned around and stopped. "You didn't came back for me. I waited, for a year. You never returned. You never called. You never send anything to my email."
