I had forgotten to ask when Keghan wanted me to come over, so around noon I started to his house. I idled in his driveway, searching his house for signs of life. The door opened and John stood watching me. He turned back to the house and called something. Keghan appeared a moment later, he stuck his head out of the door and smiled warmly at me.
He hurried out to my car and I turned off the engine. I got out to meet him. "Hey." He greeted me as I slid out of my car. "Come in." He told me when I didn't respond to his hello. I grabbed my books and followed him inside.
John immediately left the room and went upstairs. Keghan had his books on the table opened to the chapter we were working on. "Were you waiting for me?"
"I forgot to tell you when to come, so is wasn't sure when you were coming..." He trailed off, looking at me.
I glanced down self-consciously at my body. I had my hair tied up in a bun, resting on the top of my head and I was wearing skinny jeans and a blouse that I had randomly picked out of my closet. "Is something wrong?" I asked nervously.
"Nothing." He smiled at me. "Ready to study?" He asked happily.
"Yeah sure." I sighed. "Where are we starting?"
* * *
We studied for a while until I was too tired to look at another word. I sighed and put my head down onto the table.
Keghan placed his warm hand on my arm. "Hey, you hungry?" I nodded, not willing to lift my head.
Keghan came back and set down a sandwich in front of me. "Thanks." I muttered up to him. He smiled and started his own sandwich as I started mine. I smiled as flavors assulted my tounge. "This is amazing." I told him and he smiled lightly, he looked tense. I put my hand on his hand, giving it a soft squeeze. He tensed even more and I pulled away.
"I'm sorry." He told me, gripping the table.
"What's wrong Keghan?" I wanted to reach out and touch him again but I was afraid to.
"I can't tell you." He whispered. "You don't know how much I wish I could tell you, but I can't."
"Yes you can."
"No." He shook his head. "I really wish I could just tell you everything, it would be so much easier."
I looked at him a moment. "Maybe it would, but I don't know."
"Yes, I believe it would. Will you do something for me?" He finally looked at me and our gazes locked.
"Depends, what is it?"
"Close your eyes and completely clear your mind." He ordered. He placed his hands on either side of my face, and my heart raced.
Friend, I hissed at myself, but my heart told me otherwise. You wish, my heart laughed cruelly at me.
"Okay." I nodded and did as he told. But I couldn't clear my mind, not with his hands resting on my face. "I can't." I whined.
He sighed. "Just close your eyes and try again."
I did so and I tryed to clear my mind. I smiled and nodded, showing him my mind was empty. "Okay." I whispered, keeping my mind empty.
"Okay, stay that way, tell me if anything changes." For a second nothing changed then I felt a prickling in the back of my mind and I immediately tensed.
My eyes flew open and I looked at him, he was staring blankly at me and I don't think he noticed I was staring at him. "Something happened."
At the sound of my voice his eyes cleared. "What was it?"
