I giggled as I walked into the classroom, a ripe red apple in my hands. That kid never saw it coming. It's impressive how all I had to do was put my hand on his shoulder whisper into his ear, and he was mesmerized entirely, giving me the advantage I needed to snatch the apple right from underneath his nose. I chuckled as I took a bite, savoring the sweet juice that erupted with flavor into my mouth.

My name is Vixen. I have unusual bright orange hair that used to get me bullied. They would call me 'Carrot' until I slugged a boy in the face, dislocating his nose for pulling my hair. I was a little disappointed. 'Carrot' was a cute nickname. I even let my friends and parents call me 'Carrot.' Anyway, my eyes were a vibrant green with speckles of gold, also unusual. I liked them. They made me look even more innocent, therefore helping me get away with more mischief. My skin had the perfect color of delicate paleness but wasn't so pale that I looked like a ghost. My face was perfectly chiseled, from my gentle rounded chin to my small button nose, all the way to my perfectly arched orange eyebrows, matching my hair.

I wore a reddish-brown headband, tight black skinny jeans, and a light grey tank top was covered by a tan unbuttoned sweater, the sleeves ending just past my knuckles. I wore dull purple ankle-laced boots on my tiny feet. It was perfect for this weather, it wasn't too warm, but it wasn't too chilly, my favorite type of weather.

I slid into my seat, taking another bite of the sweet apple.

"Is this your daily steal?" A voice said behind me.

I looked behind her, smiling. Layla Jones stood behind me, her arms crossed over her chest, her lips playing a smile. With bright blonde hair and lush green eyes, and a good body, she was ideal for any guy. Even her personality was perfect.

"Hey! How'd you know?" I giggled.

Layla rolled her eyes, taking a seat on my desk.

"When are you gonna realize that you're gonna get caught one day?"

I sighed, rolling my eyes.

"I won't get caught."

"You say that now. But one day, mark my words, you will get caught and will have to pay the price."

I sighed, rising from my seat. I hugged my friend.

"Alright, I'll keep that in mind."

***********

After school, Layla and I walked down the road; our backpacks slung over our shoulders. We made our daily stop at the jewelry store, ogling at the beautiful necklaces lined on the shelves. Sadly, neither of us had enough money to purchase one, seeing that we usually used our allowances on food for lunch. I sighed as I stared at a small choker in the choker section. The wire was practically invisible, merely a tiny thin wire, only visible against the black mannequin. All it had was a small butterfly, two tiny diamonds connected the two rainbow wings, yellow at the tips, fading into pink, then purple, then finally blue at the bottom. $50.95. That's how much it costs because of the diamonds. I've been saving as much of my allowances as I could, resisting the temptations of the food to spend every penny. I was nearly there, only twenty more dollars, and I would be able to buy it.

"You like that one, don't you, Vix?" The old store owner asked, chuckling as he came to stand beside me. He was a kind older man with greying hair and vibrant green eyes. He had become friends with us, two young ladies, seeing how we had come every day for the past five months.

I looked up with a smile, nodding my head vigorously. Ever since he had put it on the shelves two weeks ago, I had only looked at that one, instantly falling in love with it.

"I want it, sir," I said, once again turning my gaze to the small butterfly. "It's so pretty!"

He chuckled, crouching to my level.

"How much longer until you have the money?" He asked.

"I think just until tomorrow. If I do more chores, I might get the rest I need today!"

He chuckled again, ruffling my hair.

"Well, take your time. Just make sure you don't overwork yourself, okay, baby?"

I nodded, grabbing my backpack.

"Come on, Layla! Let's head out!" I turned and waved at him. "Have a good day, sir!"

"Have a good day, Vixen. See you later, Layla!" He called, waving back.

I smiled as we walked down the street, imagining what it would be like to have that beautiful choker hugging my skin.
