The sun was blinding as I peeled open my eyes, finding the bed where he had rested his head warm and empty. I moaned as I stretched, hearing small pops throughout my back.
The door opened. I turned to see a black-haired girl slip inside, closing the door quietly behind her. I tensed slightly, unsure of her. She looked at me, a small smile growing onto her lips.
"So, you're the lucky girl huh?" She asked, leaning against the doorframe, her arms crossed over her chest.
I rose a brow.
"Lucky?" I echoed her words.
She nodded, making her way to my bed. She sat on the edge, right where he had laid his head.
"Yup, the girl who stole Noah's heart."
So his name's Noah. Fits him. Besides, I was getting tired of referring to him as 'the man' and 'him'.
I scoffed.
"Well, he isn't doing a good job of stealing mine," I muttered, staring out the window, thinking only of what is to come.
She sighed.
"Yeah, he's a complicated guy. He's always been like that. Just give him a chance alright?"
"No way. All he's done ever since we've been here was threaten me."
"I've heard." She said bitterly. She sighed. "I'm sorry, I'll talk to him. But, until then, don't you think it would be best if you ate?"
I sighed. Nodding, I lowered my head. It would be best since I'm going to need as much strength as I can.
Only seconds after I gave my answer, I heard the clattering of dishes. I looked to see her holding a small tray of food. Pancakes, strawberries, and water.
"Layla said you like your pancakes plain." She said smiling, placing the tray on my lap.
I smiled, picking up the fork and knife. Popping a slice of pancakes into my mouth, I moaned happily. The pancakes were fluffy and soft, perfectly melting into my mouth. I took another bite, chewing happily.
"Gain your strength. You'll need it."
I looked up at her, only to find a banner of black hair flow out the door, the lock clicking. I sighed and continued to eat my fill, only stopping once all the food was gone except for a single pancake. Once done, I waited for the food to settle, not wanting to get any cramps.
After an hour or so, it was time. Standing from the bed, I removed my clothing. Taking my belt, I took my now folded clothing and tied it to my back, the leather tight against my stomach. I breathed deeply, willing her to take over.
My bones began to crack and shift, my body bending and fur began to sprout from every pore in my body, my face stretching outwards. I gave a small cry of pain. It's been at least two years since I last allowed Willows to run free.
After a small while, the pain resided, and I stood on my feet.
Well, paws.
I inwardly smirked. They won't know what hit them. I bolted around the room, creating as much noise as I could, knocking over everything and anything. After only a minute of this did my ears perk to thundering footsteps. I hurried next to the door, knowing that when they opened it that it would conceal me.
Merely a second later the door slammed open.
"What the-- what happened?"
I crouched, careful not to let anything make noise. Footsteps tapped into the room, and two bodies stepped into my line of view. The guards must have been at breakfast, that's why it took so long for them to get here. As they scanned the room, I slipped out the open door, bolting down the stairs. Just then, I heard one of the guards yell in panic.
"She's Gone!!"
I hid behind a large couch, peeking out my head to see thundering footsteps pass me. I slunk after them, glad that I had covered my scent earlier. They began checking rooms, running around like crazed animals in too small a cage. Finally, we reached the main hall, the door right in front of us. I hid underneath another couch, bunching my limbs to prepare.
The door crashed open, and there he stood. Noah in all his terrifying glory, an angry scowl on his lips, his eyes dripping black ink.
"Where is she?!" He bellowed.
I flinched.
"I-I-I'm sorry Alpha! We could have sworn the door was completely locked!" One of the guards stammered.
Alpha? Isn't that for like, wolves and stuff?
I shook it off, focusing on the right timing. Unfortunately, luck seems to hate me because at that moment. Noah rose his face, sniffing the air. A growl shook the windows around us as his gaze turned to the sofa.
'Okay, I think it's about time we bolted.' Willows told me in my thoughts.
I showed her my agreement as I shot out the door, running through Noah's legs.
Wolves suddenly came from all sides, coats glistening and shining in the scorching sun. I bolted into the woods, the dogs hot on my tail.
'Where to climb, where to climb?!" I thought as the crunch of leaves echoed in my ears, intermingling with the howls, snarls, and barks of the wolves at my tail, creating a horrifying melody.
I skidded to the left, spotting a large patch of soft, slightly wet dirt.
Perfect.
I plunged into the dirt, rolling like that of a crocodile. Immediately I shot up and bolted again, feeling the dirt stick to my fur. I shot into a tree, concealing myself in the branches and trees. The howls were coming closer.
Now, I wait.
