When we arrived back, he trotted straight into the mansion, as if he owned the place. I was carried up the stairs, squirming and yelping. I whimpered as the pain began to sink in, rattling my very bones.
We reached a door, and the guard standing nearby swiftly opened it before closing it behind the wolf.
The room was large and wide but empty except for three different doors with protruding knobs, a large black covered bed, and two dressers.
He threw me to the ground, whereas I immediately scrambled towards a corner, curling into myself, raising my lip and baring my teeth, snarling, my fur on end despite the pain in my body. I was ready for another fight.
He growled so darkly it shook the very walls before heading towards one of the dressers, pulling a drawer open and sticking his snout inside, pulling out a pair of shorts. He stalked towards one of the doors, lifting a paw and opening the door before slipping inside, closing the door behind him.
Pretty smart dog.
Only seconds later did cracking fill my ears and I was slapped in the face with shock.
A werewolf. He was a werewolf.
What terrified me, even more, was when he exited the bathroom, the pair of shorts the wolf had taken fitting snugly around his waist, a scowl on his perfect lips.
Noah.
"Shift." He growled.
I refused by growling.
"Shift!" He roared, his voice drenched with authority.
I curled further into the corner, trying to resist, but it proved fruitless as my body began to shift. I bolted towards the bed, diving under the covers as my body became human once again. Untying the belt, I began to shimmy my way into my mud-caked clothing. Once done, I peeked out my head, seeing Noah's back turned to the bed.
"I'm done," I whispered.
He whirled around, storming towards the bed and throwing the covers from the bed as I shrank away. His fingers pinched my chin harshly, pulling my face up to stare into dark eyes.
"You just love to cause me trouble don't you?" He hissed.
I didn't answer.
"Mate. I have a mate, and it's Noah. Noah's my mate."
"Hey! Talk to me!" He snapped.
"Mate.....?" The word was out of my mouth before I could stop it.
I slapped my hand over my mouth as his eyes shot wide.
"Mine." He said, all anger forgotten as his eyes softened and his grip on my chin loosened.
He pulled me into a hug, burying his face into my neck. I panicked, shoving him away.
"No, no no no no I can't have a mate! This isn't possible! This has to be wrong!"
He tilted his head, an eyebrow quirked in confusion. It looked pretty cute on him-- What?! No bad Vixen!
"What makes you think it's wrong?"
I swallowed.
"I'm the last of my kind! I wasn't supposed to have a mate! It's unheard of for a werefox to be mated to a werewolf!"
He sighed. We stayed there in silence, neither either knowing what to say or wanting to break the silence.
"I'm going for a run." He said suddenly, beginning to stalk towards the door.
I lunged from the bed, standing right in front of the door, blocking his pathetic escape.
"Are you dense?! I want to know how I have a mate that just so happens to be a werewolf Alpha!"
"And you think I don't want to know why my mate is the last werefox in history?!" He retorted, glaring down at me.
I matched his glare.
"How am I supposed to know why instead of getting a strong, powerful female werewolf for my mate, I get a weak, helpless, lonely werefox who doesn't have any family?!" He suddenly snapped, throwing his hands into the air.
I blinked, my eyes going wide. Those words were like a punch to the gut, dragging me into a pit of shame and shock. He blinked, seeming surprised with the words from his mouth. Willows whimpered inside my head, curling into a ball of shame. I lowered my head.
"I-I didn't--" He began.
"Get out."
"What?"
I grit my teeth, lowering my arms and stepping to the side.
"I said get out," I stated shortly.
He attempted to step closer to me.
"I didn't mean--"
"NOW!" I snapped, never raising my head.
He physically flinched, dropping the hand he had reached out and stepped out the door, leaving the room and me in silence. I slowly made my way to the bed, sitting on the plush covers and hugging my knees. Tears stung my eyes. I struggled to swallow them.
I have to be strong. They were just words. I had worse in middle school. But then again, it was middle school, 5 years ago I dealt with it every day.
Now, not so often.
"Mate doesn't want us?" Willows whimpered in my head.
I broke at her defeated voice, the accursed tears spilling into my cheeks. I sniffled and whimpered, burying my face in my knees, feeling the tears wet the material.
"I don't know Willows." I whimpered. "I don't think he does."
