Merely a few seconds after I bolted up the tree did blurs of different colors bolt by, howling and snarling. I curled up further into the leaves, praying that I covered my scent well enough.
They halted nearby, whipping their heads around, searching and sniffing. They went on like this for at least a near hour before they bolted further into the trees, their large paws thundering against the ground.
I waited, waiting for any sign that they might come back this way. I relaxed as I found none. Turning, I gathered my legs and leaped into a nearby tree, heading into the direction of town. I did this again and again until my legs grew tired of leaping. I rested for only a few minutes before gracefully leaping towards the ground.
A deafening snarl shook the trees as I was tackled in mid-air, crashing to the ground as heavy weight knocked the wind from me. I whirled my head up and began to snap and lunge at my attacker, scratching at him as we rolling in the dirt, snarling and growling. I plunged my jaws into his neck, feeling the fur tickle the roof of my mouth and tasting the metallic blood work its way onto my tongue. I tore at his skin, ripping fur and flesh as we continued to struggle. I felt my own skin tear and rip, and I watched orange fur flutter onto the forest floor. But I didn't feel anything. Must be the adrenaline.
Finally, I thudded to the ground, wheezing and panting. Heavy weight held me down as a low growl, meant to scare me into submission rumbled near my ear.
I rose my head, snarling with equal anger, showing him that just because I was down, didn't mean that he had won.
But when I rose my head, my wet-tipped nose brushed his own and shocks traveled through my body, making me freeze on the spot.
Inside my head, Willows whispered.
"Mate.....?"
My train of thought was cut short as his large, powerful jaws clamped down on the scruff of my neck, easily lifting me from the ground so that my tail didn't even paint the floor. Just now I realize how freakin tall this guy is.
I thrashed and squirmed, but it was all in vain. Finally, I stilled in defeat, my ears hanging low beside me. I was caught and was once again going to be caged. But that wasn't what terrified me as he made his way back towards the territory I had nearly escaped from.
"I have a mate?"
