We bolted, the boys hot on our tails. We ran across town, our eyes wide with fear, our breaths growing heavy. We turned into an alleyway, finding a dead-end.
"What do we do now?!" Layla gasped, looking at me.
"There!" I pointed towards a ladder leading to the roofs. "Come on Layla!"
We climbed, scrambling onto the roof just as the boys turned into the alley.
"Where did they go?!"
"How am I supposed to know?!"
As they continued to argue, we tiptoed across the roof, jumping onto the other. Just as we were about to make our way across the next, we heard a holler.
"THE LADDER!!"
"Come on faster!" I said, pulling her forward.
We bolted across the roof the pounding of our feet all we could hear. I looked back just in time to see the first boy's head pop up from the ladder. He looked down and said something to the other, pointing.
"They spotted us! Run!" I called.
Layla turned her head, seeing the second boy swinging his legs onto the roof, her eyes wide with fear. She pumped her legs faster as they jumped across the roof. She glared at me from behind.
"You owe me a year's worth of paid lunches!" She barked.
I rolled my eyes as we ran, jumping once again. Man, it's a good thing we both took Track. We continued to jump across roofs, our legs pumping hard.
"VIXEN!!" Layla's voice screamed from behind me.
I screeched to a halt, turning with wide eyes. Layla struggled against one of the boy's chest a little ways back, his face nuzzled into her neck, his arms wrapped tightly around her chest and waist. She looked at me fearfully, her eyes close to tears as he whispered something into her ear.
"Layla!" I called, my eyes growing wider with fear.
The other boy stood in front of me, blocking my view of my panicking friend. I glared at him furiously, my teeth gritted.
"Give us back the necklace."
"Never!" I spat.
He narrowed his eyes then shrugged, an evil smirk etching onto his handsome features.
"Ah well, I guess I'll just let my friend take yours as a replacement." He turned his head towards them as my eyes grew wide. "Hey Ryan, take her to the car, she's coming---"
"Wait!" I screamed.
He looked at me, his smirk growing.
"What?" He asked innocently.
"If she's going I'm going with her, this is the only way you're getting the choker back," I growled, glaring up at him through my bangs. "Either that or I go to the police and have you arrested for kidnapping, and for your friend behind you, assault."
His smirk faltered violently. He shrugged finally and held out a hand.
"Alright, you've got a deal. But you give us the choker when we get there is that understood?"
I nodded, shaking his hand.
"Now make your friend let Layla go," I said.
He rolled his eyes, turning his head.
"Ryan! Stop loving on the girl so we can get going!"
Behind him, a loud groan rumbled. I glided past him, rushing to Layla, who stood panting, her face dark red. I crushed her in a hug, inspecting her body as a mother would do for her child.
"Are you okay?! He didn't do anything to you did he?"
".....No." She breathed. Ryan stood behind her, a smug grin on his face.
I turned to the other, who I'm guessing is Erick.
"Are we going or not?" I snapped.
He chuckled, walking past us. He jerked his head.
"Let's go."
