Ryan is the one in the light grey hoodie and Erick is in the darker one.
"No, I'm not doing it, Vix."
"Please, please, please??? Just this once Layla? I can't do this by myself."
"Well, find someone else to distract them cause I sure ain't!" She crossed her arms stubbornly.
I sighed, glaring at her.
"I'll buy you three months of lunch if you help." I offered.
Layla stared at me, her eyes squinted in thought. She finally nodded.
"Deal."
I sighed in relief, poking my head out from behind the store building. We had followed the boys, I fixed on getting my choker. The boys stood outside of a local ice cream shop, talking and leaning against the wall, licking their ice cream.
"They're about done from what it looks like, and when they start walking, you go up behind them and bump into one of them, make conversation and I'll snatch my choker from the bag."
"How are you going to get behind them?"
"I'll walk around. Duh."
She rolled her eyes as I looked back at the boys.
"Okay, they're starting to walk. Strut your stuff girl!" I said, shoving her onto the sidewalk.
Layla turned to glare at me, silently wishing me a painful death before she began to walk down the street towards them, I slinking towards the other side of the road. I hid behind some bushes, peeking through them as Layla closed in on the boys. She suddenly tripped, crashing into one of their backs.
"I-I'm so sorry!" I heard her cry.
"It's alright." One said, but not the one that she bumped into. "It's nothing."
"Are you sure?" She asked nervously, her knuckles pressed against her lips as she looked up at them through her eyelashes.
"Yeah." He said, smiling. He was staring at her as if she was an oasis in the desert, his eyes dancing up and down her body.
Ew.
"So....what's your name? I haven't seen you around before." She said, intertwining her fingers behind her back.
"I'm Ryan. This is Erick." He said, gesturing to the one beside him, who has yet to speak.
"It's nice to meet you both," Layla said, smiling brightly.
As Layla made conversation with one of the boys, I slunk up behind them, sneaking up on the one holding the small bag in his hand. I slipped my hand into it, applying as little pressure as possible. My fingers danced across the bottom, looking for the choker.
Suddenly, the boy began to turn his head. I tensed and my breath silently hitched.
"Wait, Erick right?" Layla said suddenly, turning her attention to him.
He stopped turning, focusing on the girl in front of him.
"Yeah. I'm Erick." He said.
"Oh okay, sorry I'm horrible with names." She giggled. "It usually takes me at least five times of reminders before it's finally embedded in my head."
I sighed in relief, sending her a 'thank you' glance as my fingers went back to their search. My face brightened as my fingers brushed cold thin metal. I hooked my fingers around it, gently sliding it out of the bag. Looking up, I caught Layla's gaze, nodding and slipping away.
"I'm really glad I met you guys, I'll see you guys around town right?" She finished her conversation, slipping past them.
"What?" The one who had had the most conversation with her turned as she slipped past. "W-Where are you going?" He asked, almost sounding desperate.
"I'm going home silly!" She laughed, waving at them. "I'll see you around town!" She then hurried towards the park, sitting next to me. "You got it?" She asked.
I nodded, opening my hand to reveal the piece of jewelry. I then furrowed her brow, jerking my head towards where the boys were.
"Hey, you okay? One of them seemed reeeeeaaaly into you." I said.
She shrugged.
"I'm used to it."
"Hey, the choker's gone!"
We tensed as the voice of one of the boys rang out.
"How is it gone?!" The other's voice answered.
"I don't know! It's just gone!"
"We should probably go," I said, turning to Layla. She nodded in agreement.
We stood to leave.
"Hey! Dude that's our choker!"
We froze, turning to see both boys standing behind the bench, one glaring angrily at us. We looked at each other.
"RUN!!!"
