Chapter Seven

That night marked the most chaotic week of my early life.

Learning mana control was crazy, I went through five teachers. None of whom had taken my abilities seriously until they either checked my status, or I gave a demonstration.

I was never bored.

But all good things come to an end. Axel and his family had to return to their manor, and I eventually got the hang of mana manipulation.

"Why can't we take her with us," Axel asked, for what seemed like the fiftieth time.

At this point Silvia wasn't even answering him. She was overseeing the movement of their things, to make sure nothing was lost. After the incident at the ball, she wanted to personally make sure there were no more security breaches.

He sighed, knowing he wasn't going to get an answer. If there was one thing I had learned, it was that these eight year olds were smart.

"You'll come visit right?" Yora asked, ignoring her brother's antics. She may have acted mature, but I knew she was just holding back as not to feed into her brother's actions. Had she have been alone she'd be doing the same thing.

"Of course," I told her, nodding enthusiastically. "You have to visit me too though," I said, placing my hands on my hips.

She laughed."Into the dangerous monster forest. I don't know when the next time I'll be going there is."

"I'll miss you all the same,"

This was about two months ago. It sucks being without friends. When are my old friends gonna die so the gods can send them here.

My mana manipulation was maxed out, which helped me out greatly. I gained a new skill, Quick learner. It makes the learning time of any skill an eight of the original time.

That seems like a useful skill to have when teaching yourself how to use weapons, but no. It still takes too long, and so much energy. I always wanted to be able to use a bow and arrow like the protagonist in any YA novel ever.

But, I just sucked at it. Ever since I got back, I've been trying to learn. I crafted myself a beautiful bow, with arrows that have cool status effects. But I couldn't even figure out how to hold the bow. The internet was no help either, because for some reason pictures weren't loading. 4g in the forest sucks, I need to build myself a modem. But that can wait for after I figure out how to use this god forsaken weapon.

I was ready to rage quit, because standing outside in the dirt stops being very fun after the fifth hour, when I heard a noise.

My enhanced senses allowed for me to hear and every inch of the forest if I wanted, which came in handy when I was tracking bandits or dangerous monsters. But this wasn't the sound of a brazen human, or a smart monster.

This was the sound of a huge injured animal. One that was smart enough to try to muffle noise, conscious of monsters that would prey on it if enlightened by its presence.

I put my bow and arrow down in curiosity, and flew up above the tree line. Man, using magic without the looming threat of using up all your mana is so much fun.

I searched the perimeter, looking for the injured animal, but couldn't find it. It probably had camouflage.

But I.could still here it. Its breaths were ragged, its injuries were probably getting worse, which made it easier to track.

I followed my ears instead of my eyes, and I found myself floating above a shimmering area. The area was as large as the first floor of my home, and that height as well. Through the shimmering feild I could see a glimmer of gold liquid. It kept disappearing and reappearing, so I think it was getting harder to disguise its images.

I flew down to the floor of the forest. "Do you need help?" I asked it, looking at the gleaming field. I had no clue where exactly its head was, so I just guessed a place to focus on.

The area shifted, obviously suprised by my entrance. It seemed to rear up to run away, but suddenly it hissed in pain. Evem though I couldn't see its face, I knew it was staring at me.

"I won't hurt you," I told it, pulling my hair back to reveal my elf ears. I had a feeling intelligent species would recognize them.

Suddenly the animal revealed itself. It was a dragon, with iridescent scales. The scales would shift from one color to another as it shifted in the light. Its horns resembled those of a deer's. They were gold in color. Its eyes were a soft periwinkle. The purple eyes looked at me in wonder and relief.

"Please help me," A feminine voice whispered. I barely had any time to react as the creature fell, its body nearly crushing me.

The dragon fell, its wings falling to one side to reveal a bad wound on its side.

I would need the strength of gods to lift the dragon back home. So I decided to just treat her in the middle of the woods. Most monsters already knew not to bother me, they wouldn't risk their lives attacking something so close to me.

I cast a barrier spell, just in case, and began examining the dragon's wounds. There were arrows sticking out of her unprotected underbelly. There were some in her left wing.

I took great care taking the arrows out, because I wouldn't be able to heal her with them in her. She winced in pain, but didn't wake up.

I used simple a heal spell for the wing, but the wounds on her stomach would be harder. Two of the arrows pierced the stomach, and I needed something for the internal bleeding. Not to mention the dangerous acids that would no doubt be leaking from the stomach puncture.

I tried a more dangerous healing spell, one that was way out of my level, at least for light.

Healing light is a spell I learned about during my time in the castle. Because of how rare the light element is, there isn't much information on it. It's a pure light spell, unlike heal, and is speculated to be a LVL 8 spell.

Which is why doing this spell is so dangerous. I'm only a LVL 4 light mage. I could suffer from mana backlash if I did this wrong. This spell could very well kill me.
