2 months later

Shelby

I felt numb, my whole body felt like it wasn't even mine. It felt like someone was holding me down, and shining a flashlight in my face. I attempted to open my eyes but only got them open a little. Everything was bright, it hurt to look. I wanted to close my eyes but I didn't.

I lowered my hands down from my face and next to my thighs to try to lift myself so I could sit up. When I was all the way up, I took my time opening my eyes the rest of the way. I looked around, seeing two chairs in the corner and a jacket on one of them. Am I in a hospital? Why is it so cold?

I looked for the button that is usually on the side of hospital beds to get someone's attention but before I could someone most likely a doctor walked in.

"Ah, you're awake. How are you feeling?" the nurse had questioned.

"Um, cold, hungry."

"Well I can fix that," the nurse handed me a heated blanket and sat a tray on the table at the end of the bed. There was red jello, a bowl with some type of soup, and a small cup of water.

I mumbled a small thanks and wrapped the blanket around my shoulders. I grabbed the spoon and jello and slowly put it in my mouth. The nurse just watched me, like I was going to break any second.

"Why am I here?" I asked while sitting the empty jello container and spoon down.

"Your brother," my brother? "And the doctor will be here in a just a moment to talk to you about it. Okay?" I nodded even though it hurt. "I'm going to give you some ibuprofen, okay?" I didn't answer this time I just let her do it.

As the nurse walked out she turned around and smiled. She shut the door gently. Before I could lay my head down the door opened.

"Good to see you're awake," you and everyone else I thought. As he walked closer he grabbed one of the chairs and carried it closer to the bed. "I'm Dr.Tim Adler. Is now a good time to tell you what happened?"

"I guess," I mumbled as the door opened once again.

"Sorry," said Ross as he pulled the other chair to the other side of the bed and sat down. When he looked at me he looked so happy, I could see he was trying to hide a smile.

"Now, Shelby," I looked at Dr.Adler. "You were in an accident and were hurt pretty badly nothing too severe though. Although after you had come out of surgery you didn't," he looked at Ross and then back to me. "Wake up."

"What do you mean?" I asked. Ross looked at Dr.Adler and nodded.

"You were in a coma and you weren't breathing by yourself the machine was helping you," Dr.Adler said slowly taking his time with each word.

I gulped, "for how long?" I didn't want to know but I knew I had to ask.

"Two months," Ross replied

"Two months," I muttered.

"Two months."
