Chapter 28: Visitors

"I dunno, Tori..."

The trio entered their room, setting down some bags from a shop they visited earlier.

"I mean, what if Nasha is real?"

"Ell, there's nothing to worry about. Even if that stupid myth is real, then she's here to save the town."

"From what exactly?"

Then, Ell's face went blank.

"And what about Tamara?!"

"Meh. She's fine, I think."

"But it's literally nothing but forest. For all we know, she could be..."

"Rescued and trying to communicate with us?"

"No, I mean-"

"Yeah, I don't think that's possible. She'd probably bore the person to death."

"No, I mean she might be...you know..."

She motioned to Matilda, who had already passed out.

"Oh...sleeping?"

"Dead, Tori. She might be dead..."

"Welp, that's one less annoyance in this world."

Tori took a cigar from her coat.

"Got a light?"

Ell stuttered, but in the end just gave up.

"I think Marko might have one."

And with that, Tori exited the room, leaving Ell alone...apart from Matilda, who was already snoring.

"Marko?"

The man was sweeping the floor when he turned to face Tori.

"Yes?"

"Do you have any matches? Or a lighter?"

"I have matches in the kitchen. I'll grab them."

Marko set the broom against the wall and went into the back room. As he came back out with the little box, Tori pulled out the cigar.

"Here you go." Marko said, handing her the matches.

"Thanks." Tori said, placing the cigar in her mouth and lighting it.

"Cuban?" Marko guessed.

Tori nodded as she blew some smoke.

"Good guess." She said. "You a smoker as well?

"No, but I've been with Andrei long enough to know some stuff about cigars."

Tori took another draw of the cigar.

"So what's the deal with him anyway? He seems very..."

"Angry?"

"Nah, more...isolated?"

"Maybe like a hermit?"

"Bah. He will never be religious, not even if he was paid to."

"I just mean he likes to be alone."

Marko looked up.

"In a sense, maybe he is a hermit."
