After Sectionals, Rachel, Mercedes, and Kurt decided to go celebratory shopping. That, and Rachel had to return some clothes she had bought last time.
Mercedes and Kurt were waiting for Rachel to return the clothes, and Kurt decided to try some things on. "Hey, wait for me, I'm going to try these on."
Kurt grabbed his normal size, small, and went to try them on.
He tried on a pair of pants first, but they were too large. He wondered how that could happen, since he wasn't getting any skinnier.
He tried on a shirt next, which was also too large. He frowned, getting back in his normal clothes and going to get the right sizes.
"Too small?" Mercedes asked sympathetically.
"No, too big." Kurt answered absentmindedly, getting both in an extra small.
"But I thought you were a small?"
Kurt shrugged. "I was."
Mercedes was a bit concerned. How could he get even thinner? He was already extremely skinny.
Kurt, meanwhile, was trying on the new sizes. The fit better, still a bit too big on him.
There was no extra-extra small that he knew of, so he took the clothes with him and checked. The smallest was an extra small, so he bought both the pants and shirt. Luckily he bought skinny jeans, so they fit like normal jeans.
The lady who was scanning the items read the tag. "Extra small? Nobody ever buys these! Thank goodness for you, otherwise we'd be overflowing with them."
"Well, they were a bit big, but it's the smallest there was." Kurt shrugged.
"Big? Wow, you must be very skinny!"
Kurt suddenly felt uncomfortable. "No, actually, I'm not skinny. Quite the opposite." He said, looking down.
The lady looked confused but scanned the clothes, and he finished buying them.
Rachel, meanwhile, had heard the conversation from the other register. She was wondering how in the world Kurt thought he wasn't skinny, when it hit her.
