The next morning, Sebastian was already awake by the time Kurt woke up. He was sitting cross-legged on his bed, writing in one of his notebooks. His eyes were bright and wide, his hand moving so fast Kurt thought his writing would be illegible.
"Morning." Kurt said, yawning.
Sebastian didn't look up from his notebook. "Good morning! How did you sleep?"
"Rather well, for my first night at a new place." Kurt said, surprised he asked. "You?"
"I woke up around midnight. I'm glad I didn't wake you."
Kurt's eyes widened in surprise. "Wow, you have a lot of energy for someone who hardly slept."
"I usually do." Sebastian said cheerfully.
"What do you write in those?" Kurt asked curiously.
"Oh, a variety of things." Kurt couldn't tell if he was being purposely vague or if that was his legitimate answer. From what he could tell, it was most likely the latter.
"What are you writing now?"
Sebastian chuckled. "I'm not writing." He turned the notebook, so Kurt could see the page.
A photo-realistic Kurt had been sketched onto the page. It was absolutely breathtaking, but one thing specifically caught Kurt's attention.
The drawing radiated a feeling of melancholy, of hopelessness. The neutral tones merely made that stand out more.
"That's..." Kurt was at a loss for words. "But... why do I look so sad?"
"I draw what I see." Sebastian said simply. "And I've never seen you smile. Or laugh."
Kurt bit his lip. He vividly remembered the last time he had been happy. The way being hurt affected him wore off the more he got hurt.
"I didn't realize that." He said softly. Sebastian didn't seem to hear him, humming an unfamiliar tune and flipping to a new page.
