Chapter 5

Neil made Avni sleep comfortably on his bed and went outside. He saw Prakash standing outside his room with questioning eyes.

Prakash - Where is Avni ?

Neil - She's sleeping.

Prakash - What she said ?

Neil sighs and told everything to him. Prakash's eyes welled up and Neil pats his shoulder for composing him.

Neil - It's okay dad, what happened in past we can't change it but we can make her present and future better. Right. For that you have to be strong.

Prakash - she will be fine right ? You will bring my old Avni back right ? ( in tears.)

Neil - She is already your old innocent Avni dad. She have struggled alot and have build some nasty walls around herself. We will break those walls and drag your Avni outside.

Prakash smiles.

Neil - I have to leave dad. I have some important work at police station. If anything happens then you can call me.

Prakash - Okay.

Neil left and Prakash went inside his room and sat beside Avni who was sleeping peacefully. He caress her hairs and a lone tear escapes from his eyes.

Prakash - I wish I was there with you Avni when you needed me the most.

He was admiring her and pulled his mobile out of his pocket. He opened the gallery and saw his pic with Avni and Ashish. He smiled in tears.

Prakash - Don't worry Ashish our Avni will be fine.

In afternoon Avni woke up and found Prakash sitting beside her.

Prakash - You are okay ? ( He asks softly.)

Avni - Yeah !! ( She says meekly )

Avni - Uncle I...

Prakash - No need to say anything. Neil told me everything. Don't worry Avni we are there with you.

Avni got tears in her eyes and hugged Prakash.

Avni - ( still hugging ) Why are you so nice uncle ?

Prakash - Because my daughter is the best. ( smiles.)

Avni - ( breaking the hug ) I am not uncle.

Prakash - You are the best. ( He kisses her forehead gently.)

Prakash - Now freshen up. I will bring your lunch.

Avni nods. After sometime Prakash entered her room with a plate. Prakash fed her with his hands. After lunch they came in the living room.

Prakash - Now tell me what you want to do for entertainment ?

Avni - You won't go to your office uncle ?

Prakash - No, today I want to spend time with my daughter. ( smiles ). Okay now tell me what you want to do ? Let me guess you want to play your favourite video games. Right ?

Avni - Yes. ( excitedly ).

They were laughing and playing video games. Prakash felt as if he's playing with the younger Avni again. His happiness knew no limits at this moment.
In evening Neil entered home and got a blissful surprise in form of Avni's giggles. He went near them for hearing what they were talking.

Avni - Nope, superman uncle we used to watch Shinchan. ( pout ).

Prakash - No, doraemon.

Avni - No Shinchan was my favourite cartoon so we used to watch Shinchan and whenever you used to watch any other cartoon. Then.. ( mischevious smirk.)

Prakash - You used to fake your anger and made me fulfil your wish. ( pout ).

Neil smiles.

Neil - Don't tell me that you guys are planning to watch cartoons.

Prakash and Avni turns around and saw Neil standing there. Avni gets nervous after seeing him as their conversation in morning was playing in her head. Neil saw this and thought of making her feel good.

Neil - Dad I am very hungry.

Prakash - even i am very hungry. What about you Avni ?

Avni nods.

Neil - Avni you know how to cook ?

Avni - Not much.

Neil - Even I don't know much cooking.

Prakash - You both sit together. I will go and cook something for us. Okay.

Avneil nods. Prakash left.

Neil - You are fine now ? ( softly )

Avni - Yeah !! Thanks. But Neil..

Neil - You need not to feel ashamed of yourself Avni. See we can't change what happened but we can atleast make your present and future better right ?

Avni - Will you be my friend ? ( She asks politely)

Neil - No.

Avni gets disappointed.

Neil - I will be your best friend. ( smiles )

Avni smiles looking at his eyes which were full of sincerity. Neil forwards his hand for handshake. Avni reciprocates the handshake with a smile lingering on her face.

Neil - Besties forever. ( smiles )

Avni - Forever. ( smiles ).

Prakash watches this and smiles. After dinner they went to their respective rooms. Neil was standing in the balcony and was engrossed in his own thoughts but he was feeling something weird.

Neil - Why am I feeling that something is not fine. ( confused.)

After few minutes something striked him.

Neil - Shit !! How can I forget this. Avni. Today Avni will be having her first night without drugs, she will not be able to tolerate her body's demand for drugs. How can I forget this ? ( concern, fear everything was reflecting in his voice. )

Without wasting any second, he ran towards her room and saw Prakash was also standing outside her room.

Prakash - Neil, her room's door is locked. I don't even know if she's fine or not.

Neil - Don't worry dad. I will break the door.

He breaks the door and......
