Precious Winter

a thick white blanket covered the town
the earth wore it like a ballgown
the children awoke, sprinting outside
for what joy the heavens did provide
sounds of voices and laughter arose
shouts of glee delivered by those
who waited and waited every year
for winter to lastly appear
they patiently waited without worry
for they weren't in any hurry
but when the day did arrive
more than any other times, they felt alive
the crisp air nipped at their ankles
chilling them from every angle
consuming their last bits of heat
as they danced about the streets
it didn't bother them in the slightest
as this was when days were brightest
not just from light, but from delight
as it was a beautiful sight
the frozen crystals drifting to meet
the children, yearning for a treat
the first touch ere the fun commenced
finally broke the growing suspense
the sharp chill it sent down their spines
such power from a speck so fine
no day was greater than that of those
that made the whole city glow
for, those were the times of laughter
joy filled the air like none thereafter
alas, all things must come to an end
but soon enough, it will come again
as there's a time for everything
there's a time for winter and a time for spring
and though they love the winter so
they must welcome new plants to grow
and as they thank the cold for its stay
the sun makes way for a new day
