I grumpily sat down at the dinner table, clutching my fork. Darren looked at me as if worried, but Georgia seemed to not care. Maybe the Head Spirit Stealer was somehow related to Georgia, and was making her seem like this? Usually she would ask me all sorts of questions.
“Okay, let’s start eating!” Alicia said, sitting down at the top of the table.
I munched up my roast dinner and finished my orange juice. I thought about Steve, how he tried to help me the first time I saw him. I kind of took him for granted… if he were here now, I’d be much happier. Plus I needed to know more about defeating Ernest!
“Sam… is there something wrong?” Darren whispered into my ear. I closed my eyes, longing for that kiss I hadn’t had for a long time.
“Just come to my room after.”
*
I twisted the door knob and went into my room. I sat down on my bed, sighing. Darren locked the door after him, and sat down next to me.
“I missed you Darren,” I said, gazing into his beautiful eyes.
“Me too. I’m so sorry I spent so much time with Georgia… she just seemed to have a charm that made me like her. Plus, you were with Steve most of the time.”
Oh. Did he think I had broken up with him for Steve? Also… there was definitely something wrong with Georgia.
“Have you noticed anything else about Georgia? Like anything strange?”
“Oh yeah, a heck load of things. She tried to kiss me the other day… but I refused.”
I let out a sigh of relief before Darren’s lips met mine. This feeling… I hadn’t felt it in what felt like a long time.
The kiss lasted for a minute or so. Then Darren pushed me down onto the bed, almost wanting me to do it with him. But I had other things on my mind, plus I didn’t need to have a baby just yet.
“Darren… can we wait till I get back from my attic?”
“What are you talking about? Going to your attic? No way! I don’t want to lose you!”
“No. I’m not planning to suicide… the only way to save everyone in the attic is to go there myself, and kill the Head Spirit Stealer.”
“Huh?”
I told Darren about everything he’d missed, going on until way after one. He nodded, understanding, before kissing me again.
“Then… the only way for me to help you is to come along right? I have to meet your mum, and show her what a good boyfriend I am.”
I smiled.
“Well… it’s quite late right now. How about… we talk more in the morning?”
“Roger that!” I shouted, saluting. I hadn’t done that in a long time…
After washing up, I crawled into bed, and fell asleep almost immediately.
*
I woke up with a yawn, and saw Darren in front of me. I managed a smile, but stopped him from kissing me. Morning breath…
“Are you ready to do some preparation?” he asked, a bit disappointed.
“Sure… just let me wake up first!”
I got out of bed and went straight for the toilet. After brushing my teeth and hair, I went out to look for some clothes. I finally decided on a blue shoulder less top and some jeans. I slipped a glass bracelet on and put on my three inch heels. I didn’t bother with make-up.
“So, last night, I found out some information about defeating Ernest. There were so many rumours, but from all the answers I found out a pattern. It was as if someone was trying to send us a message. The first letters of each answer spelled out: GIVE HIM RED AND ORANGE SPOTTED FLOWERS.”
“Hmm… where can I find red and orange spotted flowers?” I thought out loud.
“Wait, I haven’t finished! The flowers are super rare and can only be made by very advanced magic. It will be almost impossible, since neither of us are magicians.”
“Oh, but I know someone who is.”
Old Ben the Sorcerer.
I knocked on the wooden door a couple of times. Five minutes later, Old Ben turned up, revealing the modern world inside I had seen not that long ago.
“Hey Old Ben! I’ve got a favour to ask you!”
*
We sat down on the grass outside since it was such a warm day. Old Ben put up an umbrella and three chairs, and clicked his fingers, making some lemonade appear out of thin air.
“So, what was this favour you wanted to ask me?”
“Well, I was wondering if you knew where to find some red and orange spotted flowers.”
Old Ben was silent for a couple of seconds.
“What did you say?”
“Do you know where to find some red and orange spotted flowers?” I repeated.
All the colour from Old Ben’s face drained out. Did this bring back some bad memories?
“Well, I do. But they are incredibly hard to find - the last time I tried, a dragon almost killed me.”
“A dragon?!” Darren exclaimed. Of course - Darren was so interested in dragons.
“Yes, but it wasn’t kind at all. It had huge wings and scales so sharp if you were to just put your finger on one, it would cut you at once.”
I gawped at the thought.
“Then how are we going to get it?” I asked curiously.
“I’m afraid the flowers were exterminated from this world - scientists said that too many people had tried to get it, and failed. So right now, the existence of those flowers are - well - extinct. There’s simply no way to find them!” Old Ben replied, throwing his hands up.
“But you’re a magician! Surely you can make them or something?!” I exclaimed. This was certainly going the wrong way.
“Dearest Samantha, magic cannot create something like that! That plant… it’s deadly. It can tranquilize you within seconds of touching it. You’ll be paralyzed forever if you eat it! Who knows, you might even die!”
I sighed, knowing this was getting nowhere. There was no point in asking Old Ben. He could’ve been hiding something about it, or it could’ve just been that he had no idea.
“C’mon Ben! Are you sure there’s nothing we can do?” I said with a softer tone.
“Well… there is one tiny bud from the flower, and it’s being kept in a Germany laboratory. It’s worth millions… if you really want it, you could look for it, but trust me. It won’t be cheap.”
