"Ma, you in here?"

"Boy would you stop yelling, what is it?"

"Oh nothing, just wanted to check on my favourite lady. What you making for dinner?"

Rolling her eyes, my Mama looked at me and shook her head walking into the kitchen. "What can I do for you Christian?"

"Ma, really, how many times do I have to remind you, that I don't go by that name no more. Since that nig...I mean that bastard found out where we were I've practically had to get used to using and hearing people call me by my second name. I ain't complaining though, you know the ladies dig my name so I prefer it more to Christian." I smirked.

"Listen here Christian Yuri Bryant I will call you Christian for as long as I'm on God's green earth, now what you want boy?"

"Mama what's up with the government use though. Can't I come over and check up on you? We don't see each other as much as I would like."

"Oh please, boy, whose fault is that huh. You've been far too busy for your Mama and don't think I don't see you parading around those fast girls who be only hanging around you because you give them things. I hope you're not because if I find out that you are then you are going to get an earful from me, you hear me Christian? I don't like the lifestyle you live Christian. Why can't you meet a nice wholesome girl who is respectful, has a good head on her shoulders and values herself. Do these girls you hang with have jobs. Can they cook, clean, wash their ass, forgive me father for speaking like this but this child of mine is too nice for his own good. Angel, when are you going to settle down and make me a grandmama. I'm not getting any younger. I want to hold and kiss a mini freckled face, pouty lipped, lisp speaking younger version of you. Can't you give your Mama that?"

Rubbing my hand down my face, I look down at my feet. "Mama please, we've talked about this before, I've been busy coaching this basketball team and on top of that I've had to cover for a couple of my counsels at the law firm. I'm just not ready to be a father and I haven't met the right girl yet."

"You did have the right girl but you chased her away! But angel, I know you will find that girl of your dreams and it better be a child of God. I always think about my angel Ana, I never heard anything from them once her and Mama Ivy moved to New York. Son, whatever happened between you. The only thing Ivy told me was that you two had an argument at a party and that was it. What made my angel move away?  She was so happy here with you, and us. I always pray for Ivy and Ana and their family. I must catch up with Ivy hopefully she still has the same number. Christian, you never did tell me what happened between you two. Why did you two break up and she left suddenly?

"Fuck." Swearing under my breath I don't know what my Mama's reaction will be.

"Christian?!"

"Uh...well" with my hand wiping the sweat from my forehead I slowly walked over and sat next to my Mama on the couch.

"Oh Lord Jesus, please don't tell me you did something to hurt my angel. You better open your mouth now and tell me Christian!"

"Mama, please calm down....uh, the reason Ana and I broke up was because I...."

Quickly jumping off the couch, Mama started screaming "I knew it! I just knew it Christian! How could you?, SLAP...."Mama please..."

" Don't you please me, let me calm down, what the hell did you do boy?"

"Can you please just sit down Mama. Damn I haven't even told you the whole story."

"You watch your mouth or I'll get the strap!"
