Hi, I'm David Dobrik. And I'm going to tell you my story of me and my best friend/ crush that now hates me and is dating the Co-captain of the wrestling team.
Let's backtrack to when I was five: I was a little boy in Slovakia who moved out to L.A with my mom and dad. We moved into a quiet neighborhood more south of California.
I remember the second day I was in California a woman knocked on our door with warm chocolate chip cookies and what I assumed was her daughter.
Flashback
"Mommy someone's knocking the door!" David said and Mrs.Dobrik went to open it.
"Hi! I'm Jean Koshy, this is my little girl Liza and we saw you just moved in so we came to welcome you with some baked goods if you'd like" she says with a smile and Mrs.Dobrik smiles widely.
"Why thank you, come on in! My husband isn't home right now he's doing some paper work" she says and Mrs.Koshy nods her head.
"David! Why don't you play with Liza your new neighbor" His mom said and he shrugged.
Liza was shy-introverted one would say. David scooted over to her and smiled. "Hi I'm David" He says. "I'm Elizabeth but everyone calls me Liza" she says. "Cool, I like the name Liza it's kinda like lizard" David laughs and Liza giggles.
"Where are you from?" The girl asks. "I'm from Slovakia" he answers. "Sl-what?" Liza says in confusion. "Slovakia". "Where's that?" She asks again.
"Slovakia is-well um I don't know where Slovakia is but I know I'm from there" he says shrugging and Liza giggles and nods.
That day Liza and I just talked for what felt like hours to our little five year old minds. Liza asked me if I ever tried In-and-out or Chipotle. I told her I didn't know what those were and she gasped.
The next week we spent together she took me to all the places I "had to try". It was so much fun. Since we were next door neighbors we'd always play with each other.
We did everything together. And by everything.. I mean everything.
In kindergarten we were hand in hand ready to take on the world. We sat next to each other every chance we had.
We were David and Liza.
Then in second grade came Gabbie Hanna and Alex Ernst. Our duo became a quadruple..? Anyway- we then did everything as a group. Of course, me and Liza were still super close than the rest.
Then came middle school. Our little group doubled when a certain Zane and Heath, Carly and Erin came along. By that time-Liza and I were as close as we can be.
I remember I went bra shopping with Liza for the first time. Remember: we did everything together.
She wanted to experience the first bra she got with me. And I was totally okay with it. It was normal- but our parents were a little weirded out.
"Are you sure you don't want to bring Gabbie or someone else that's I don't know.. a girl perhaps?" Liza's mom said. "No mom I told you I want to bring David! We do-" "everything together yes I know" Mrs.Koshy finishes and lets out a chuckle.
"But don't you think David will be a little uncomfortable?" She asks. "Nope, we already talked about it" Liza said and her mom gave up and went over to David's house.
