i was sixteen when i witnessed jungkook make his first friend. his name was namjoon and he was from the town over. their school had closed the year before and we were bombarded with transfers.

i couldn't help but feel jealous as i watched him walk with namjoon to class. although in the back of my mind i knew they weren't involved because namjoon already had a boyfriend.

his name was jin. he always smiled at me when we passed each other in the hallways. we never spoke directly but he seemed like a sweet guy.

jimin and i on the other hand, welcomed a new member to our friendship. his name was hoseok. he was the funniest guy i knew by far. always knew how to lift my spirits when i was sad about getting teased by my classmates.

my childish behavior never died out as we entered high school. for some reason, it bothered people so much. i still played with kookie whenever i got home from school and that was that.

everything changed the day that jungkook had protected me from those bullies. i was never touched again but they resorted to name calling to make up for it.

i smiled at jungkook as he talked to namjoon. i was happy for him. he finally had someone to talk to. suddenly he looked directly at me, causing me to give him a shy smile.

he looked at me with a blank expression before looking away.
