"You're going to kill Renard?"
Veronica had just told Nick about her task concerning the captain, he wasn't upset about it nor did he oppose it, he was simply curious.
"Ummm yeah, well not exactly kill him ya know. They said it was either incarceration or death. The point is that we agreed that he was a loose cannon and a hazard to you and your friends."
"Are you going to be able to pull something like that off? I mean he has contacts in so many places."
"Well its all just a matter of discrediting him, if I were to arrest him I'd have to get something solid that proves his crimes and if I were to kill him I'd still have to find something so it'll go down as just or you know make it seem like an accident."
The two then shared a moment of silence as awkward as the sky is blue.
...
Nick and Veronica had just gotten a report stating that they were going out of the state to investigate a possible led. A Balam had escaped from a group of Darkspire Grimms and had been placed under the protection of the organization, they were heading for New Mexico. Veronica had gone to her hotel room to pack her things, Nick was at Monroe's doing the same. He had just informed the Blutbad of his findings on the situation.
"So, these guys are mowing down the strongest Wesen they can find and laugh as they slowly kill them." Said Monroe, voicing his disgust.
"This time someone escaped and now we can get more answers on how they operate which means that we can get closer to stopping them." Nick had just finished packing,
"So, your old patrol partner is a Grimm?" half-asked Monroe, changing the topic.
"Yeah, it's ironic because throughout the entire time I knew her I hardly suspected anything. I mean I had seen her with some unexplainable injuries but after a while, I just trusted whatever explanation she gave me."
"That's how much her word meant to you?"
"Yeah."
Nick finished loading his stuff into his car. He turned to Monroe.
"You and Rosalee stay safe, ok. Even if you feel like something is even slightly off, call me immediately."
"We'll be fine, go on and do your thing."
...
It was warm with a cool brisk by the time the two Grimms made it to New Mexico, the weather was pleasant and welcoming. Too bad they were there for such negative reasons. Nick and Veronica passed time on the plane by exchanging stories about Wesen cases and talking about the old days.
"Remember when we were chasing a suspect into a pig pen and he landed on a hog." reminisced Nick out loud. "The swine was hurt pretty bad, but the pig only got a sprained hoof."
"Yeah, one of the porkers planted a big wet one on the guy too."
Nick was silently thinking to himself as they walked to their organization issued car. He couldn't help but feel nostalgic, he was sharing a prominent part of his life with someone he trusted more than most, prior to meeting Veronica Nick was prone to keeping to himself and did not tend to let others have his back. Veronica noticed her best friend's expression.
"What're you thinking about?" Asked the female Grimm.
"Nothing, I'm just glad that you're a part of one of the constants in my life again."
Veronica smiled at this and started the car.
"So who's the survivor anyway?"
"A Balam police detective named Valentina Espinosa."
Nick froze.
"I know her, I worked a case with her."
Both Grimms paused and mulled over the possibility of a connection.
...
Monroe was once again with Rosalee in the Spice Shop, they were looking over whatever writings their respective families had on Endezeichen Grimms, they even borrowed books from the Trailer. Nick had just called and told them about Valentina.
"This Darkspire group seriously has no qualms about killing innocent Wesen, even the ones who helped a Grimm." The Apothecary mused aloud.
"Take a look at this, its a scripture about Nick's line," Monroe began to quote the verse,
"Of the noble family of the Schwartzwald fearing no other being on earth the Kessler family is of honorable blood. The names herein are those of warriors, knights, and protectors of peace."
"Man, I wish these guys were more of them in the past, I don't think there'd be as much slaughter and bloodshed between Wesen and Grimms."
"Too bad no one else shared the Kessler 'hunt the bad, protect the good' motto." Said Rosalee, quoting another verse of the book.
The couple continued to rummage through the books when a man entered the spice shop. He was in his late fifties, with silver hair and light blue eyes.
"Can I help you?" Asked Rosalee, Monroe was standing close behind her.
"Are you two Rosalee and Monroe? Burkhardt's civilian consultants?"
Both the Fuchsbau and Blutbad nodded in agreement.
As soon as they looked the man in the eyes they saw a dark abyss filled with carnage and violence.
"You're a Grimm." Stated Monroe, with obvious shell-shock.
"I'm Director Joshua Raymond of CILESO, but you may know us as the Watchers."
"Nick told us about you guys." Said Monroe.
"Great, because we have a lot to talk about, firstly I'd like to offer the two of you some very important jobs."
...
Nick and Veronica had just arrived at the safehouse Valentina was being kept in. The Balam was extremely tense but when she recognized Nick she calmed down a little. She briefed the investigators about her abduction and escape.
"What do you think?" asked Nick, wanting to confirm whether he should start worrying about the lives of Rosalee and Monroe.
Veronica was genuinely concerned for Nick and for the lives of his friends, but she could only find one answer.
"I think that you should call your friends right now."
